Need a little help grading this coin. My first Half Cent acquisition and would appreciate some opinions. It has that dark chocolate brown surface with nice rims so I couldn't pass on it. Looks like the 5 may have a repunched date. nlp

Wild guess from a non-US collector: AU-50 to 55? Looks like a little lite wear and few circulation scuffs but nothing too unusual for copper Half Cents?

I also think AU, closer to 55 than 50. There is light wear on Liberty's cheek and jaw plus some visible rub on the leaves of the wreath. Some of the soft detail on those leaves is strike weakness IMO. Color is very nice and surfaces look original. I'd be tempted to rinse it in water to remove some of the debris around the date and rims, then follow with an acetone dip to ensure it dries completely.

Very nice coin and a good pick-up NLP!

Thanks much for the opinions and compliments. I'm afraid to wash off any dirt for fear of a different color beneath. That would stand out like a sore thumb. I was hoping for an AU category and it seems the general concensus is there. nlp

Looks like a solid AU-55 it has a bit of corrosion that may be able to be removed the NGC sub company. And my be something to look into.

I don't think thats corrosion, more just verdigris. my initial first impression was XF-45 but that might have been from the mushy reverse strike. I'll say AU-50

My first reaction was XF45, but as I look at it more, I think maybe a slightly weakly struck AU50.
