Well lets see here, I started to get into collecting big time around December. As a college student, money and time are two big things that are hard to come by. While I have slowly taken a break, I am approaching the finishing touches on my Kennedy halves set. The big ones that I need in this set are the 90% silver proofs from the 90's and 00's. Only need a few more from the 60's simply because I am replacing worse condition coins with MS 65+. Also have my circulated nickel set halfway completed and have my wheat set somewhat started with a few very nice wheats. I am like OCD when it comes to have a nice collection. I either go for the best or dont get any at all. Guess that is why I have been taking a break lately, because the better the coin, the more money it costs, the more I have to spend, and the more I go into debt. HAHA well I guess coin collecting is going to take a back seat for a while. I am just glad that I started when I was 19 instead of when I was 50. Going to start up my Franklin halves collection next. Already have a BU 55D. ;)

I always get a little depressed when this topic comes up now and again... Generally, it reminds me of:The inability to stay focused on a singular task before wading into another one. Meaning....... I have SO MANY albums/folders going....that it seems a miracle to complete one ! More than a few of my albums are being "held up" because, I too, want a VERY good quality coin in there, and "general circulation" coins just won't do for those ! But......hmmmm....."completed ones".Let's see..... I do have a Jefferson nickel folder complete A P&D 50 St. Qtr. folder complete A Memorial cent folder complete A nice little "Westward Series" folder complete A couple Presidential dollar folders complete/up to date A Whitman album for Proof Presidential dollars only A Sacagawea Dansco complete (to 2010 anyway) A Dansco Territory album with Proofs complete (and xtra page for Satins) And there's a couple/few more that I can't think of at the moment I'm sure. So.......basically, I have the "easy" cheaper/modern ones complete. But I have A STACK OF DANSCO'S SEVERAL FEET TAll that are "ongoing works in progress" for me that are NOT COMPLETE. Which are all of the usuals: Lincoln with Proofs (2 different ones going actually) Jefferson with Proofs Rosies with Proofs....and folders Buffalo nickelsMorgans Peace dollarsWalkers Franklins Kennedys Washington Qtrs. Mercury And there's more to my "list" that I'm working on......but you get the picture. Sometimes it just frustrates me that I can't seem to get some more important ones complete ! I'm just all over the place..... ALL the time ! ... But, more than a few of my Dansco's are looking REALLY sweet ! And coming along VERY nicely ! ... And this keeps me energized......not having the money to do what I want, however, keeps me humble, hungry, and envious !

Good read. Completed my Jefferson nickel Dansco - moving on to a full MS set and then probably a FS collection. Working on my pride and joy - complete MS (High AU if I have to) sharp detail Buffalo nickel collection. I started a penny collection but got bored of that really quick. So far I'm extremely content on just upgrading and filling the Buffaloes. Is that strange?

For so called completed sets I wonder just how many consider a set completed if they are missing certain coins. By that I mean in some Albums there are slots for some coins not in others. So a Dansco Early Lincoln Cent compared to a Whitman, for example. Same with other manufacturers. My Whitman Classic has slots for the 22 Plain, 55 Double Die, 72 Double Die, 95 Double Die. Naturally all the different 60's, 70's, 82's, all proofs and although I don't have the latest page, I would guess all 20 of the 2009's. So if your Album doesn't have those slots, and others do, which is really complete? My Mercury dime Albums have slots for the 42/41, 42D/41 and the Micro 45S. I've seen other Albums that do not so again, which is really complete? I've got a Liberty Head Half Dollar Dansco full but the lasta page has many blanks as if no one knows if they are going to start making them again. With those blanks, is this a complete collection? I've got an old Whitman Folder that has a slot for the 1913 Liberty Head Nickel. Unless they start making those again, that Folder will never be full. Kind of brings back the many replys on that post about the 1922 Plain Lincoln Cent not long ago.

Carl, I don't think it matters how many slots have a missing coin, the set is complete when the collector declares it complete. If my Barber dime set had a hole for an 1894S, I wouldn't consider it incomplete just because I would never be able to put together 6 or 7 figures to fill that hole.

as well. I'm not looking for an XF/AU 1913 Liberty nickel for my set ... I will call it complete without that coin. David

me too. My "complete" albums have spots for a few varieties that I will not be getting, like: IHC 1869 9-over-8 BHN 1918-d 8-over-7 BHN 1937-d 3-leg Merc 1942 2-over-1 Merc 1942-d 2-over-1 Merc 1942 micro-S I will be moving coins from folders to albums soon, so there will probably be other varieties spots that I will not fill.
