OK so I'm bored....again.

So bored in fact that I want to see if we have any creative geniuses here.

Write a poem dealing with any facet of numismatics.

It can be long, short, sad, funny, obscure, or even downright idiotic if you'd like. There doesn't have to be any rhyme or reason. Just entertain me.

HERE is the first installment for some inspiration.

Nothing better to do tonight, so I figured I'd try this...

There's a coin out there with your name on it
Search it up and you can put your claim on it.
Cent, Nickel, Dime, Quarter maybe even a Half
Rare enough to make you smile, or even laugh.
But you won't find nothin if you're not lookin'
Just like there is no eggs before no chikin'!

I better stop there, before I stop making sense. And may I suggest making it into a contest perhaps, to bring the best out of everybody?

Here are some limericks written by your's truly and were accepted and published elsewhere on the net (with accompaying notes).

The Alhambra (int' town I were born)
Sold ice cream and loud-popping corn.
When Dick Tracy were new,
We'd catch Superman, too,
All for thruppence on Saturday morn.

The limerick is written as it might be spoken by someone brought up in the Bradford area of West Yorkshire, England, as 'were' (was) the author.
The Alhambra was a popular name for flea-pits (cinemas) in Northern Britain along with the ABC, Odeon, Ritz and Essoldo. They provided a welcome respite for parents with cheap Saturday morning programs for children -- which was possibly why families were larger in those days. Thruppence (three pence pre-decimal) is equivalent to 1.25 decimal pence or 2 cents.

I was asked by a begging farang,
"Can you spare me a 50-satang?
For that's all I need
To go buy, at great speed,
A cold beer--a nice bottle of Chang."

A farang (fa-LANG), in Thailand, is any foreigner.
The baht is made up of 100 satang with only 25- and 50-satang coins in general circulation.
Chang™ (elephant) beer is a popular brand in Thailand, along with Singha™ (lion) and Tiger™ beer. Today a 330ml bottle will cost you about 40 baht ($1.20) from a supermarket. The cost is more if you drink in a bar.

Life can be both cruel and fickle.
You're broke, find yourself in a pickle.
"Can you spare me a dime?"
"Wouldn't give you the time,
Not even a Buffalo nickel."
Rest in Peace

sniping's my game, brian's the name
browsing on ebay, 3 in the morning
Always tiring, never boring
if I go ten more minutes I'll be snoring
can't win copper capped bust halves or gold
cult followings and more snipers ten fold
I keep trying but it really gets old
overtons, varieties I have no clue
but seated and barber I know what to do
standings perhaps and some other stuff
looking for nice ones, avoiding the fluff
classic silver is where I shine
blurry pictures, 1 in the morning,
and its mine, all mine

Artistically best ... my belief,
is the nickel with Western motif.
On reverse is Black Diamond
NY City's great bison.
Its obverse a mix of three Chiefs.

A dime poem meant to awaken
a truth that is ofttimes forsaken.
most people think "Mercury,"
instead of "Winged Liberty,"
whose visage is so oft mistaken!

Now let's throw a pun into the mix for fun

A half dollar addict & newbie
was learning of mint marks he'd see
He said, "now its so clear
A "P" & "S" can appear,
But I am not sure, Ken a "D?"

edited for spelling error!

Ok so I'm feeling very uninspirational right now so here's my original posting. Enjoy

----------------------------------------------------------------
Here I am from this relentless sojourn
They see me coming and can't quite discern
I walk to the counter, my money in hand
The teller looks perplexed as if she can't stand
"Do you have any Halves?" I politely ask.
The teller seems distraught over this simple task

Quietly I wait to see the outcome
Hoping that she might just have some
She gives a quick nod to much my dismay
I knew this wasn't going to be a very good day
"I have some halves!" cried a voice from beyond
And low and behold there stood a cute blond

"I'll take them all if you don't mind"
I must have been nervous as my teeth started to grind
"$8.50" she said with a glorious smile on her face
Oh my Lord this is such a wondrous place
I searched them all not once but twice
This was a beautiful lot, so pretty, so nice

I see Kennedys, Franklins, and even a Walker
I hope this cute girl doesn't think I'm a stalker
I returned the next day in a distraught dazed slumber
And managed to ask the cute girl for her phone number
I took her to dinner with the profit I made
Knowing full well it was only face value that I paid
