When I began collecting coins about 40 years ago, the 09-SVDB was one of the most sought-after coins around. It obviously still commands a high price. It has become one of those iconic coins that will always be in demand and will always bring a lot of money, no matter its condition. In looking though the ebay bidding wars, most of the offerings end up being sold for around $1000, give or take a couple hundred. So... if you are still trying to get one, how much would you feel comfortable spending to fill that hole? And if you do have one, how much did you spend (if you don't mind me asking)?

Don't own one yet, but I plan on spending about $1000 some day.

I never recommend buying one on the internet. This is the most important coin you'll buy in a Lincoln collection. You should look for one in person. Also, unless you're good at spotting fakes, buy a slabbed coin. Get your cash together and head out to some coin shows and dealers. When you're spending $1000 it's worth some time. You wouldn't run out and buy a new refrigerator at the first store you walk in or just over the internet, would you?

I got mine for $800, and I sent to PCGS graded with AU 50 a year ago.

Did you hear that recent story about the guy who bought the 16-D Merc off of ebay. It was in a PCGS holder. And the holder was fake. So was the coin. I would do my due diligence with coins of this popularity and demand. I plan on getting a MS example when I do get one.

When you collectors buy this coin for your album do you remove it from the slab? (if it was in fact graded)

I purchased mine for $675 a few months ago. It was slabbed as Genuine for environmental damage but there is none that I can see. I made out awesome.

Quote: When you collectors buy this coin for your album do you remove it from the slab? (if it was in fact graded) When I buy this coin (or any coin) I will remove it from the slab. I keep my coins together in an album, but that is my personal preference.
