We are spending the weekend in Colorado Springs, CO, visiting our daughter, grand daughter, and son in law.

I made an important purchase today at one of the local coin shops - 2010 US Proof Set. Our grand daughter's birthday is 7/9/2010 - she will be one year old tomorrow. Hopefully, this might start a hobby for her. I also have a 2010 ASE, but that can wait for Christmas or another birthday.

Happy B-day to your granddaughter. My daughter is 15 months and I think I'm going to get a 2010 proof set for her to get her started too. I like that idea.

I am not sure my niece and nephews would like coins, so I got them all ASE of their birth years. I went that route because, the older kids would have 5 coins in their proof sets, but the youngest would have 10 coins in his proof set. Also, I wanted to treat them equally with same amount of coins

Its a good feeling to try and encourage the next generation to appreciate the value of coin collecting.Every time I purchase a new issue coin I also get one each for my two grand-daughters,then tell them about the coins and how important it is for them to hold onto them.

I actually bought proof and mint sets from the birth years for both my kids (22, 19) and my grandaughter (3). I am also looking for ASE's from those years. I wasnt worried about the number of coins in each set, it's the SET that counts. I figured they would be good keepsake items for them. I'm actually trying to come up with a way to package them with pictures like birth, and graduation. When the time comes, they can do with them what they wish.

I started my cousin's daughter (born in 2010) with a 2010 proof set and now her father is hooked! My thing for her is a proof set for her birthday and a savings bond at Christmas. I know that her dad treasures them and hopefully she will get hooked when she is old enough (plus she can will have lot$ from the savings bond to buy something she wants when she is older).

Kind of funny outcome today. Everybody wanted to know about coins and why these were so shiny. Encouraged the guesses and then shared the wealth of info.

Ashlyn is lucky - Presidential dollars, five beautiful quarters, AND the proofs of circulating coins.
