Delaner,
Here is another one to compare to.
http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...o=3055#Photo
It sold for $10350, and had a splash of verdgris/pvc on the back. In my opinion of why these coins get are either:
- The TPG lets it slide intentionally and gives it a break since it is a key date
or - The elements needed to make the green substance were on the coin prior to being slabbed, and they continued to involve into corrosion within the slab.

Coins are exposed to every thing under the sun, germs, dirt, oils from skin, etc. The cause of this may have been the cause of many factors.

Option Number 3:

Though it is not strong for the grade, the surfaces are immaculate. In line with Heritage G-6 sales. Thoughts?

Nice John. I really like the original, choice surfaces.
I know it's a tough decision. You are not exactly buying a $5 coin.
If I were doing a Barber quarter set, I would go for this one in a heart beat!
It just has that absolute problem free appeal.
I am between G4 and G6 to be honest.
BTW, picked up an 1877 and some other IHC'S :-)
In Arizona right now, thermometer reads 123!

Johnny,

I am surprised PCGS gave this coin a G6, It is a weak G4 at best, very weak reverse to be a G6. Of course you know me, I am not a real big Barber fan, the coin is attractive , just overgraded IMO. Greysheet 4100.00 by the way.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I think it would be strong for a G-4, but weak for a G-6 compared to other certified examples, so I'm with Dave. It is comparable to some G-6s I've seen on Heritage, but I think the TPGs tend to overgrade a bit because it's a key. I agree vanbroj that it would be overpriced as a G-4, but it's quite reasonable as a G-6. There is a HUGE spread in value between a G-4 and a VG-8, so that factor has to be taken into account in the pricing.

I know I am about 2 or 3 weeks late but I would do the half eagle set. That would be a nice set to have

You know, these are strong. I've been noticing that F2's are selling for AG3 prices and AG3's are selling for G4. All of the "big keys" are more expensive now than I've seen them before. I think it's simply a case of more demand than supply. Perhaps it's not a good time to buy, but perhaps... well, that's up to you Johnny!

I have been concentrating on the keys lately and have been getting some very good buys.
I think with the economy in the state it's in, even coin dealers, especially with the overhead they have, just are not moving these big keys like they would want to, and are more than likely to give you a better deal right now. Not every dealer, but some.

Thanks for the comments! Mkman, do you mean classic gold related to bullion value like what is in my roll, or are you talking rare gold pieces (such as a capped bust half eagle)? I've been a little more hesitant with gold dropping a bit. One thing I've decided, If it goes over 1800 at closing, I will sell. If it goes under 1700, I may go back to my half eagle set and start buying some of the indians I need. The indian half eagle set is a very viable option, since I can still build my roll up a bit more that way.

My #1 options is still to get the 1856 Indian cent, though the seller has been unresponsive to my recent inquiries about a down payment online. Since I just don't have the time to drive down there right now, I'm still in limbo with my decision.

There's a relatively low grade 1795 half eagle small eagle on ebay if you're interested: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1795-BD-3-R...140596273350

My offer of $7K was rejected but it's not bad as a type coin in my opinion, especially considering how rare it is to see those come up for auction.

Good luck with whatever direction you go in!
Rest in Peace

Thanks coinsalot! That does look like a decent coin, but I wont spend that kind of money without plastic.

This 1909-O doesn't look too bad.
