Shook my whole house for about 15 seconds!
Here's the bizarre part... All my cats knew it was coming about 2 minutes before it hit. They all woke up and jumped down from there perches and met in the living room all looking jittery.

USGS says it was a 5.9--a serious quake in areas without seismic retrofitting, particularly for brick structures. Good idea to check your chimneys...you wouldn't want it coming through the roof from an aftershock.

Personally, I missed it. Everyone in the building is buzzing about it, besides the two guys I share this office with (we had no idea). Local news is jabbering about it.

bobby131313-- Last time we had a tremor my cats knew about it for a few minutes before it happened. They woke me in the night and I couldn't figure out why until I felt the house rattle a bit. I still have one cat and he lets me know when there's a thunderstorm coming while it is still 50 miles away. I could go on but the cat has no interest in coins at all. LOL

Felt the earthquake really good here in eastern NC...now we are just waiting for the hurricane this weekend! This is the first earthquake I have ever experienced.

Does anyone know the last time an earthquake hit that region?

I remember a tremor in Delaware County PA about 40 years ago.

Last time something hit was probably in 2002/2003. I live and work about 30 miles from where it hit, whole place was shaking like crazy and a loud rumbling was heard. We were evacuated for about 45 minutes until they cleared the building.
Edit, last time a 5.9 hit was in 1897 or so a co-worker tells me.

I don't pretend to know much about building codes in the eastern US, but it sounds like, based on what I have heard so far, that there was no serious damage or injuries. Whew!
