Refered to as a "counterstamped" coin. Done after it's released, not during the minting process. Like they said, there are many different variations. Not worth a premium, but I find them cool, nonetheless. On that note, I have a few of the cents with the Kennedy profile counterstamped on the obverse. What I picked up today was a Kennedy half with Lincoln stamped on it.
I'm gonna chime in here to say I do have one and really can't put a value on the 'cool factor', but if I had to, I'd say currently it is worth double the face value in copper alone. I'd pay four times face value (one for each clover leaf) on the spot. If anyone is selling one for face value, let me know, I'll buy it.
Some people do collect them so it is worth what someone will pay. I would say go to ebay and search Counterstamp Lincoln Cent and you can get an idea of the value.
I got one of these in my grandmother's coin collection that she passed down to me. It is an 80's penny with a "gift" or "present" stamped above the date. The penny also is a strange silverish color.
