thingee - the 1970 dime is the lowest mintage of the post-silver dimes here in Canada. It's the only one I still need before I go back and start filling in the silver ones. Mintage was only 5 million, whereas the next lowest mintage was 1971 at 41 million. (Most years were between 130-200 million). I've managed to pull 5 silver dimes out of circulation, but no 1970s. :(

Just managed to get my hands on some Jefferson Dollar rolls. (4) The bank had a 1 roll max but said they'd be 'Nice' and give me 2... So I sent the wife in for 2 more. My observation is that the Jefferson dollar is the worst quality US coin I have ever seen come out of new rolls. 95 percent of the coins had the grease strike errors along with a film that kinda rubbed off with a soft cloth. What looks like die punch marks on all of them. I managed to get 2 keepers with the edge lettering facing opposite sides. So all I need is 2 P's to be complete. No smooth edges... I can't believe that the mint is putting out such junk. Where is the quality control? I have searched SAC dollars which were not the best but usually out of a roll you would find a lot of nice coins. I am going back to searching halves and nickels...

There was a strike at the mint that year. The mint strike of 1991 is the reason 1991 25 cent coins are almost impossible to find in change. Less than half a million produced that year.

You can always go the PL set route to get your dime. I had a couple spare circulation dimes but gave those away a couple of years ago.

Are you sure they weren't the Adams Dollars. I don't think the ordering period for the Jefferson Dollars has even begun.

chrycopaul,
After all this time, I think I want to keep it circulated. That would provide me far more satisfaction than just buying one. Besides, it gives me something to do so that I don't spend my money buying other coins. :)

Went through $1290 worth of half dollars today. Yeah, a lot. The payload? 3 40%, 1 90%, 1 walker, and a 1991 S proof. Not much, but it's better than nothing. Ty

hey friends, I need your advice. I've gotten 10 boxes over the past 2 months, about one per week. On the first 4-5, I average about 15 silver halves per box w/ about 2-3 of those 90%. Well, out of my last five boxes, I bet I've gotten a TOTAL of 10! What gives? The boxes are the same, and the inspection dates are within a few days of eachother, so why the big difference in silver? ANyone gone through this? I just started in April so I haven't developed the toughness to not pout when I can't find any silver :( Thanks alot!!

I'm not lucky enough to find a place with a roll much less boxes of halfs. However, it could be that your going over the same coins over and over? That not too many "new" coins are being added to the rolls that you are searching. Most banks in a given area all use the same armor car company, etc. So even though you may get your coins from a Bank of America and turning them in to a Wachovia they all end up at the same depository. Just a guess.

I snagged me a couple of adams rolls from a bank and found me a few minor errors such as worn die strikes and some rather greasy dirty looking adam dollar.

I would think you're thoughts would be 100% accurate, except the boxes that I get have inspection dates from 2004, all of them. So I would assume these boxes have been sitting on a shelf somewhere in the big vault just waiting for someone like me to request them? I was just curious if anyone had noticed this before, I thought it was kinda odd.

I buy Kennedy half rolls quite often, I have found many 40 and 90% coins and all other years I create rolls for those years. Hopefully someday it will pay off to contribute to my retirement. Although Kennedy rolls are getting harder to find they still are out there and like all else they will appreciate as time goes on.
