i save all silvers, and I've begun to save rolls for the low mintage years. Schaller, do you keep a certain quality for given years or just anything that you find?

I have searched about 6 boxes or so and haven't found much silver. Less than 10. The first two boxes had not a single silver kennedy. The most found in one box was 5 silver coins. I found one proof and no low mintage ones. Low mintage = 87 p and d. Ty

Thomas z71 actually I keep all the halves I buy and separate them into year rolls, I also do this with the State Quarters because even though both coins are common today there will be a time when none of them are so common and even the hole fillers bring a decent price. I guess over the years I have decided this is the way I wanted to collect because I remember the days when this coin or that coin was very common and easy to come across just in pocket change, but when they are eventually pulled from production even the common dates of today can be very difficult to come by. And as we know there are many Kennedy's very difficult to come across in roll searching today that can not be picked out any more so that's why I just separate all now while they're still available at cost. And it's amazing how much silver one comes across even yet today.

cool schaller, thanks. I don't have enough assets to tie up thousands in Half dollars, but I will start saving a roll or two of say 82, and 86, and that type of thing, ones w/ low mintage. I think I got spoiled the first few boxes that I got. Oh well, I just called another branch to get a box to change my luck :)

Schaller56, Something to think about. The mint produced more 1964/1964D Kennedy half dollars than the total mintage of all the Franklin Series combined. I'm not saying the price won't go up on Kennedy halves, but take a look at prices for low to mid-grade Franklins and decide for yourself. If I'm not mistaken, I believe they are primarily based on the silver content.

Gatzdon, Your post may be very true but then again I guess that this is one of the things collecting is about, We never really know what will or will not hit, and more importantly it's the enjoyment of putting the rolls together, One other factor is when ever people can buy at face value, you have lost nothing, but I've done quite well over the years with Kennedy's

Half dollars don't get much use in commerce...unlike other denominations where most of the valuable silver coins have been picked out...not true with halves...our coin club use this method to raise money...lots of silver half dollars still out there in better than average condition. As previously stated, ask for the older wrappers or at least ask not to be given federal reserve wrappers(they are all new cupro-nickel halves). ENJOY THE HUNT!

Well I finally found a bank w/ some rolls. However, they told me up front the guy that turned them in had picked them clean. Still took the rolls to go over. Found a few dates I had missing from my album. Did have almost $40 in 1995 Ps. Looks like the person must of been busting up 95 rolls and tossing everything else back in. Going to keep a few of the harder to find dates, a few of the 95s and go hunting for more.

all the silver I've found has come from the FED wrapped rolls.

so get this, just went by a different branch that I had order me a box since I was getting skunked like the last four times. Got a box w/ all the rolls ripped open, then taped back together :( The teller pulled out a handful maybe 10 coins, and five were from the 60s. I'm about to go through 500 coins, and not find that many silvers. :(

i go through a 1000 dollars in halves with a coin dealer, if your interested in halves ask the bank to order because the bank we go to order them on a weekly bases. We get a couple keepers found a few proofs in them. I get roll coins at my local bank and I get $10 dollars in each denomination this way I get the stuff that the customers bring in. I got a roll of Indian Head Knickels. The rest a few silver pieces in Jefferson Knickels. Happy Hunting

Well stopped at a new bank today that I don't have an account with to ask about a promotion they have. While was there asked if they had any halfs. She had $50 worth. Found only 1 very beat up silver in the bunch. $50 in dimes resulted in zip. However, she told me she had some Eisenhower dollar coins. Didn't have any more cash but she said she would save them for me. Maybe I found a bank to buy rolls and such from after all.

What is the order size for 1/2 dollars (a box)? Is it $500 or $1000 dollars in each box? I've asked at a few banks and they didn't know. I'm going to try and get one of the banks to order me a box or two from the Federal Bank in Atlanta.
