Quote:Similar issue to the 25th Anniversary ASE sets. Thought they would have heard enough complaints to redesign the packaging to take that into account. I only bought one set which was adequetly packed. I did not have any bounce-outs like I did the 25th Annie sets. The dark blue corrigated cloth included in the 2012 set is a thicker, sewn 'pillow' with foam in it. Aparently it is not thick enough to prevent bounce-outs completely. Perhaps with lessons learned the mint will get it right when they do the 2013 silver eagle set.

Would it be that hard to rubber band the disks together and just let you put them in the slots when you open it?

Yes + on the UHR. That idea could really be mined (!) to bring out every last dollar if the mint does both gold and silver, unc and proof, 2 and 4 coin sets.

Nix on Denver, they just aren't up for high quality coinage. They do strike some commems but only uncirc versions (like my avatar). I want a fully brilliant proof ASE (with a satin proof companion) or a one year RP set from W, P, & S.

"I would call that a wash"
But how many coins were graded by each to arrive at that figure, I would venture a guess that NGC has many more graded than the other mentioned company!! I could be wrong, JMO.

@clairhardesty: Quote: a one year RP set from W, P, & S It would be a beaut of a set. Although I expect them to keep issuing RPs annually now since they know they have something people want. I hope it does not cheapen the desire for the 2006 and 2011 RPs though. The Bicentennial quarter design changes were really viewed as special - and then they started pumping out multiple new designs each year. It made for a great variety for people to collect, but new designs just are not as special as they used to be. More and more RPs might end up doing the same thing.

However, the only time the struck silver commems at 3 mints (83-84 olympics), Denver strikes slightly outperformed Phila and SF, judging by NGC pop reports. Also, Denver often performs better for regular circulating strikes. FWIW, the differences aren't big, but they are there.

I see the same numbers that wif99 mentioned, at this stage of the game it's going to be hard to move the numbers significantly with over 12k already graded by PCGS, especially since they seem to be getting tougher on the grading with each passing day. PCGS FS will be the King, I only saw about 15 listings on ebay for complete sets. Not many have been sold recently, but the fact that the sellers have stood firm with pricing, if not increasing their prices, says a lot to me. I would kill to see a 3 coin RP set, but do you think the Mint would do all 3 in one set as opposed to 1 per year combined with more common ASE's so they can sell more of those? Clair, just curious, if Denver isn't equipped to strike high quality ASE's, it must be the equipment that they're lacking? How hard would it be to get them up to speed to start striking ASE's? They probably couldn't do any worse than San Francisco!
