Quote: I think it would be out of reach of a lot of people's wallets though. I cannot see the gold Buffalos ever being as popular - as in collected by the masses - b/c of the price. But what an amazing coin it would be. I would like to see a silver version.
As long as gold is where it is the gold coins will have real low mintages. It would be amazing though. Addie if it wouldnt be too much trouble, itd be interesting to hear some of the other questions they asked just to see what their thinking about or worried about

It actually let me take the survey lol. Very strange that they were far more interested in personal information than information about coins

Wow, am impressed....returned my coins a week ago Friday. They received them Tuesday, replacements on the way and due to arrive Monday. Pretty fast turnaround...just hope they are nicer

got my sets in. 1 RP was out of capsule somehow and has a die chip in the right hand obverse field that is still frosted, which is weird. Other RP looks ok but has one shiny pinhole grr! Proof coins suck. One has a line in right obverse field ( die clash or something?) and the other one has a several small spots in the fields

I received my third set yesterday. I initially ordered two sets on the first day and one set on the last day. All sets had similar imperfections. The USM quality control is abysmal at best. I opted not to return any sets because quite frankly I did not believe the USM when they told me that returned sets would not be resent to other customers. They stated that they would note my account when I expressed dissatisfaction with the first two sets. I have no intention of submitting to TPG and I did forward one set to my brother. My only saving grace is that the mintage is hopefully similar the last day counter. If TPG services are grading similar coins 70's then their credibility is very much in question.

Iron Horse Let me welcome you to this family, I appreciate your statements about the mints QC, I have sent 2 sets back last week, and am assured I will be receiveing replacement sets. I can not help feeling exactly what you said, about them resending the returned sets back out to customers, I should see the "replacement sets" soon, I just hope the same die marks are NOT to be found on my replacement sets, I have seen a few sets and they all have very similiar spots, specks, scars in about the same places. Lets hope some poor collectors do NOT receive our returned "damaged sets" . I also feel the 3rd party graders that feel the proofs are a PF70, could be found to be a mistake!!! ( Just think I feel the sets are damaged, because the Proofs have spots, specks on the frosted devices or fields, or scars from the dies being scratched, am I being to picky? ) I do NOT think so....

intersting what they told you, Iron Horse, b/c the other day when I had a run in with them, I asked if they would be sending me reutrned coins. The rep said, "well we have an awful of of returned coins right now." I told him I expected non-returned ones and told them that I am on a forum where peopl are saying they are getting flawed pieces that they suspect are returns. He assured me mine would not be returns. For once kept their word. My sets are flawless. I think the fact that I mentioned being on a coin forum, they knew I would be checking them carefully and probably wanted to save themselves the shopping costs for sending me coins to replace bad ones.

If theyre even willing to say they have an "awful lot" of returns the returns have to be very significant. If 20 or 30k sets had been returned the only ways they could send out returns as fast as they are if if they knew they were sending out things they shouldnt have and did another run to prepare or if theyre resending returns.

Honestly folks, it would cost too much for PBGS to process returned sets in an effort to turn them around as replacements. They don't have anything to gain by doing so and if anything, they would lose out on money from the mint for processing the returns. It may well be the returns that caused the last of the orders to return to the 10/31 "expected ship" date, because in stock sets that would have gone out to those customers are instead going to those who have asked for replacements. PBGS probably does not even look at returns until they have a lull in shipments, if they ever look at them at all (or simply strip the coins out and send those to the mint for disposal). I also think that is unreasonable to expect that anyone at PBGS would open sets to check quality prior to shipping them as replacements, to ensure that the returner gets better coins the second time around. You are every bit as likely to receive unacceptable coins the second time as you were the first. I doubt that order pickers have knowledge of whether or not items are replacements or first shipments.

Quote: Honestly folks, it would cost too much for PBGS to process returned sets in an effort to turn them around as replacements I dont think so. Set comes in, take it out, check both coins are there, put it in a new box and off it goes to the next on the list. With this set I really dont think its unreasonable to assume 10-20 percent of orders have been returned for better coins and I doubt they had 30-60K extra laying around. But theres also another way that could be happening. PBGS may not be doing it themselves, but the mint could be shipping the same coins back to them instead of redoing another full run or two since it would cost them far more to remake that many. Or even just sending some back if they made more and came up short for what they needed by the time returns got to them Quote: I also think that is unreasonable to expect that anyone at PBGS would open sets to check quality prior to shipping them as replacements, to ensure that the returner gets better coins the second time around. I agree with this. The people on the floor just know theres an order and its luck of the draw.

Nice; glad you got some good coins. The two sets I have look great and I have a 3rd on its way. Will probably list the 3rd and go buy some bullion with the proceeds.
