The coin appears to be a slider 58 to 62. Put me in the 58 group.

You would hardly think they were the same coin, though clearly they are.

the sellers photos appear to be manipulated to hide the flaws. there is only one reason to do that. I'm going with AU58 however very concerned about this area as the hairlines cross over the devices and number of them as well as all in the same direction could indicate some sort of wiping or cleaning. it would not be die polish lines. if you paid Red Book for an MS coin and can return this coin I would seriously consider that especially considering you bought the coin based on the photos presented which are not a representation of the actual coin.

As you can see from the educated opinions of the people here, there is no legitimate "right grade" when it comes to slabbed coins. The companies themselves will tell you grading is an art, not a science. There is nothing scientific or verifiable they use in grading coins. It is the opinion of experienced graders only. And...the grade of the same coin can change! This same coin broken out and resubmitted even to the same company is never guaranteed the same grade again. To make it clear, notice I have not hurled any insults at the companies or anyone else. I also have not said anything negative if a person enjoys collecting slabbed coins - hobbies are about FUN and how we find that fun. I am relaying the facts of the system to help better educate people into making wise choices when they enjoy collecting slabbed coins. Too many people not understanding the reality lose too much money over these companies. http://goccf.com/t/346174#2967242http://goccf.com/t/130186This is why CCF encourages people to buy the coin and not the slab.

Believe it or not I'm actually pretty happy with the coin (although I knew the abrasions would elicit controversy, which is why I posted it). It's quite hard to find such a solid strike on post-1921 Peace dollars. This one is stamped out very nicely, I think. I usually find really mushy details, especially on the reverse. I also don't see any wear, though I do suspect it has spent time in a casino. It will sell easily using un-doctored photos. But it is indeed troubling that a respected auction house would use those clearly "enhanced" photos.

When I look at the true view photos, the grade looks like a MS64/65. What got me down to a 58 are the marks on the neck and chin and no luster on the OP photos. The True View photos shows possible rub on the tip of the eagle's wing. I would not want to own the coin if it graded higher than 63.

The True View photos are glamor shots and the photos most likely made the coin sell for strong MS62 money at auction. It is a nice coin for grade. The glamor photos maximize the revenue for the auction house.

You said you paid full Red Book for this - how much did you actually pay?

I still think she's a MS61 in my eyes, but having it in a holder at a point higher helps when selling it, I didn't think they'd hold her back in AU territory. It's the key date and not an easy coin to find overall especially in MS condition, it shouldn't be too hard of a sell over the holidays.
