My avatar, a 1786 Vermont Copper. This may sound "out there" but I feel this particular coin was meant to be found by me 220 years later. I picked it up in 2006.

1982 small date zinc DDR-001 Discovery Coin. Found it in a bank roll and ended up putting me in all the major coin magazines. First shown on this site.

1854 arrows at date Seated quarter VG raw, but I don't have it any more. It was given to my dad (born 1916) by the "tooth fairy" (his dad) for his first tooth, given to me for my first tooth and I gave it to my son for his first tooth. He has it saved for when he has a child.

My favorite coin is a 1924 Saint-Gaudens Double eagle. I won this in a coin raffle at a coin show. I paid $5 to get 6 tickets. It was a raw coin so I sent it in to have it graded it came back MS64 ANACS.

1869 nickel three-cent piece. I used an odd, brown-colored stock pic from here as my av for a while. My dad had it along with some IHC's, a 1939 Mexican 1 centavo piece, and a 1944 Philippines one centavo piece, and as the "eldest" son (and the only one interested in coin collecting) I was the one who inherited them.

BU 1944 Mercury dime given to me by my wife on my 50th birthday, with a photograph of the side door from Boston's old Federal Reserve Bank. Now a luxury hotel, the building has beautiful brass 1920's era coin images on all the exterior doors.

Mine is an 1857-O Seated dime that my Grandfather gave to me in the early 70's shortly before he died. I was around 10. I think of him everytime I look at it.

My first coin, a 1916 Mercury dime given to me by mother when I was about 6 years old, and I loved this hobby ever since then. Thanks Mom!

I used to have one... An 1888 Morgan dollar, one of the most common year/MM, but it was given to me when I was 8 years old by my now diceased grandfather... It was my first silver coin I have ever got, yet 4 years ago, I made the mistake of not using a safe or security box at a bank... and it was stolen by a life-long friend who became addicted to drugs... The sad thing is that I lost 2 important things that day, a piece of my history, but more importantly, a friend...

Every time I went over to my great uncle Drexel's house when I was a little kid he would always give both me and my brother an old Kennedy half. He said we were supposed to use it if we saw a cute girl who looked thirsty and could use a soda (I'm now pretty sure he just wanted to get rid of them, the man hated Kennedy with a purple passion). Every time he gave one to me I saw how big the coin was, how much it weighed compared to normal coins, how perfectly it fit into my palm, and thought "Wow, this must really be worth something".

Not a single coin, but Mercury dimes are the ones I've been chasing since I was about 10yrs old. I love those things...worn and near unrecognizable, pristine and FSB...I love 'em all! Also, the one in my avatar...my first Ancient Roman. It's well worn, but I think that just gives it character. And it's a big, chunky coin...very cool to show people!
