There were other years that contributed more valuable coins, but can anybody offer up any other year that had a greater variety of really interesting and rare dates as 1916?

1916 DDO Buffalo nickel
1916-D Mercury dime
1916 Standing Liberty quarter
1916 Liberty Walking halves -- all mint locations
Rest in Peace

I'm hoping for a gov issue 100 year anniversary commemorative set for 1916 types. Silver half, quarter & dime would be a plus.

And I agree with your statement. 1916 rules.

1921 comes to mind as a close second. But with 1916 being the first year of issue for three U.S. denominations (.10, .25 and .50), it would be hard to beat. But I'd still love to have a 21-S Walker in MS65.

How about 1894?

1894 Morgans (all semi-keys, especially 94-P)
1894 Barber coinage (especially 94-O dime)
1984 nickels and cents are tougher, not really semi-keys, but tougher.
1894/94 Indian cent overdate

Yes, thought about adding 1921 too. Halves, quarters, dimes, Peace dollar, 21-S nickel. That's a good year for lots of keys.

1909 was a good year for the 1 cent piece! Also I'm a fan of the 1856. :-) However, I agree with you that overall, 1916 is the best year for Key dates because of the slq and dime.

How about all clad business strike 2016 Dimes issued as Mercury dimes?
We really need a one-year break from the FDR monotony!

Then in November 2016, a silver 2016-D Uncirculated Mercury dime, limited to 264,000.
( just to test how fast the Mint's new ordering system will be... )

Rest in Peace

Me too -a vote for 1894 don't forget the rarest of them, the 1894-S Barber dime

1804 was pretty good too!

What about 1861? You have the Confederate penny if I'm not mistaken as well as the 3 New Orleans half dollars under 3 governments(U.S., Louisiana, and Confederate).

1796

Half Cent comes in two varieties both are 5 figure coins

cent comes in two types, there are rare varieties in each but if you just go by type the cap is easy (easiest coin for the entire year) but the bust is tough. Overall if you want a 1796, buy a cent.

Half Dime, this is an "easy" coin for the year and it would still run you four figures

dime tough but possible In very low grade you might even be able to find a damaged one for under a grand.

quarter one year only type, low mintage and expensive

half dollar two varieties both in the mid five figures in AG.

Dollar another "easy" one if you can call any bust dollar easy.

quarter eagle twp types with and without stars. No stars is the high mintage with 963 coins, with stars only 432, both coins are five figures even in low grades.

half eagle another five figure coin

Eagle Another five figure coin.
