I am hoping to get some better knowledge of what coins
coin collectors look for and hope to find when roll hunting
or just searching their daily change.

In the U.S.A. we of course look for silver coins that still might be floating around. Also Lincoln wheat cents Buffalo nickels, War Nickels

I had the chance to look through $150 face in Canada coins today, I am wondering if I pulled out everything I should have. FYI I could pick any of the coins and purchase them for 70% of face, just saying so paying a premium is not a issue.

I picked all the large and Half Cents. And one or two of each year cents there was for King George V and VI. Any of the nickels from the 30's 40's and 50's that looked good.

Are dimes from 1967 and 1968 worth messing with?

Do older cents and nickels still circulate much in Canada?

I know there are price guides that have collector values.
But I am more looking for if certain common coins should be picked up when you find that at or near face value.

For example, if I find a common Lincoln Cent in change I know I can take it to a coin shop and get Two Cents for it.

Well 1967 dime is silver, so if you can get it for face value, you should definitely. I personnally look for varieties, so there'd be quite a long list of years I pull out for closer inspection.

Mysterious missed the 68 dimes are also something to look into. About %50 of them are %50 silver. take a magnet to it and you will see. if its magnetic not silver if its not magnetic silver.

I almost picked out some of those .. I was not sure of the
exact years. The ones for the early 40's look like they are made of something lighter.

How common are older coins seen in change, in Canada.

You can still find some 40s and 50s in nickels also, some early cents if you get a box and roll hunt.

I see 1lb bags, at 4.54g per 5 cent piece that's $5 face, offered for that price.

Pretty expensive given the 60 day spot of nickel hasn't cracked $10 according to Kitco.

I can see it is going to take time to learn all the good coins, to be watching for

I am putting a lot of "pure nickel" nickels away. I am wondering if the U.S. melters/refiners
are processing them
