Hi. With nickel prices making 5 cent coins worth near 10 cents how can I cash in the nickel jar. I have saved over 300 in change without buying rolls. The nearest coin dealer doesn't want them. Before I invest more time and money are there places to sell these?

I have about 10 ounces of pure nickel coins from all over the World.

I have no idea what I am going to do with them. I separated them from all of the other low value World bulk base metal coins that I have. I have no idea what I am going to do with these, either!

I can't think why anybody would want them, when they have been so thoroughly searched through. Dealers don't want them. Perhaps I might break into the local elementary school, and scatter them randomly through the playground. Perhaps I may bury them shallowly near the canteen, so some metal detectorist can discover them.

Maybe, perhaps, they may be treated with some reverence in 2,000 years' time, like late Roman bronze coins are now.

Hold on to them for now. It costs you nothing to save them (you can still spend them at face if you have to). The are around 2X face but have been as high as 5X face when nickel was high.

I have never used ebay. Tried 1lb at a time on kijiji, no interest. Had luck with other coins to locals.

Well those just go right back to the bank, with a note on the roll saying they are pure nickel. Hopefully the RCM will get them and melt them down and get them out of circulation. Make the old nickels more rare and the price may go up by the time I am a great grandfather. :)

With 300 of them, you have about $15 worth assuming you got them at face value. If you don't need the money right away, why not just hold on to them for now? There is another site where there are alot of hardcore copper and nickel hoarders that I am sure would be interested if you really want to move them and get a decent price without taking on the risks/fees of ebay. PM if you want the site.

I agree with keeping them. If you want to get rid of them, sale them on ebay by the roll.

When my father started setting aside dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollar coins in the late fifties eairly sixties they were worth 10 cents, 25 cents, fifty cents and a dollar. All silver coins.
Just a thought.

I am aiming for 50 rolls of nickel.
I am at 17 rolls acquired at face value.
Kitco shows 5 years ago a recorded high of $24.23 per pound of nickel.

It's fair to say that collecting silver in the 60s is similar to collecting nickel in now, the value of a silver dollar was around $1.50 then.

I think that the realistic probability of a major return on investment is very different, however, as nickel is much more abundant.

With that said, it's all speculation and good luck! For me, I'll take my nickel, convert it to silver or cards or collectables and back to cash repeatedly over the next few years instead of looking at copper and nickel hordes :)

If I ever want to get serious I'll invest in stocks or other certified investments.

I would keep them for now. No cost to find a corner to hide them in!
