On the heels of my post about spending a lot of bread on a coin, how about what you feel is the best deal you ever got in terms of your perceived value of the coin (or even the actual value) versus what you paid. Quoting money amount shelled out optional.

For me, I'd say it was a 1924 CH BU FH SLQ. I paid $48 for it back in 1974. That was a good deal back then. It's not really a FH, but it's dripping with luster and is lovely to look at.

A roll of BU 1961-D Roosevelt dimes for $5 Back in the early 90's The brothers that ran the local grocery store knew I was into collecting. One day when I stopped in one said look what I got, he had 2 rolls someone cashed in at face. He let me have one and he kept the other. I still have them.

i trade any quarter or dime I have in my pocket for a silver quarter or dime in my register at work so the best deals I've gotten were silver quarters at 25 cents each

I'm pretty happy with the coin I discussed in this thread. The seller's pictures were pretty awful and I figured the coin was likely damaged or harshly cleaned: The starting price was only $129.99, which seemed pretty low for this particular coin and there weren't any bidders (presumably due to the poor pics and the relatively high starting price). I waited until the end and grabbed it for the starting bid. I was extremely pleased when I got the actual coin the mail: Maybe not the steal of the century, but much less than I ever expected to pay for this coin in this grade.

If only in coinage or coin items, this is my list: 1. Most important, most valuable and best deal in coins was joining this forum 2. Second best deal was stopping using other coin forums. 3. Third best deal is going to coin shows 2 to 4 t imes a Month. 4. Aquiring a jar of about $35 face value pennies with the newest one in the 50's. Many Indian Head too. 5. 3 ringed binder at a flea market with 285 Buffalo nickels all in from G-4 to AU-50 for $80. 6. Non coin related, my 1967 Imperial Convertible for $1200 with about 1200 miles on it. 7. The amount of money to get rid of my first wife. 8. The list could go on for hours.

Bought an 1852 Large Cent that I only paid $17.00 for on E-Bay. The picture was pretty blurry, but from what I could tell, it looked to be in decent shape. Sent it in for grading recently ans it came back as MS-60 . Am really happy w/ that purchase . Sometimes your the bug... but in this case was the windshield

Best deal I ever got was a 1914/3 die pair 6 Buffalo. Bought a raw 1914 MS-63 off a dealers web site for $44. Spotted the over date when it arrived, sent it to PCGS and it came back MS-64.

15 cents for an 1877 IHC in AG. Yes, I took it back when I discovered what it was. Coin shop declined on taking it back. Turned it into the 1914 D (XF) and 1911 S (MS64) Lincoln cents in my collection today. Occurred in 1988.

Best deal I ever got was fairly recently from a bulk lot of Australian halfpennies. Worked out at 18c a coin. I pulled out a CH.UNC 1911 halfpenny worth $500+

I've shown this one before but since you asked.....I always cruise ebay looking for a good bargain that others don't catch. I was watching this 1902 that had a 1.50 opening bid. I like to snipe listings and I spaced out and missed the ending of the listing. Nobody bid on it so I asked her if she would relist it. She did with a 5 day listing so I had to wait another 5 days lol. Again nobody bid and I got it for 1.50, free shipping. It didn't look very good and I forgot about it. It came in the mail and it was in one of those old self adhesive type flips. I still couldn't see it very good through the Mylar opening. Took me a bit to get the stupid flip open. Do NOT buy adhesive flips, lol. Anyways, when I got a look at it, I was shocked..... Anyways......that's my buck and a half find.
