Kind of a repeat of Victoria, Edward VII (First Name - Albert) and George V (First Name - George).

I suspect that Charles (And I think he will be George VII)will have a shorter reign like Edward VII as he is already four years older than when Edward VII assumed the throne.

Then it would be William who likely would be William V.

The Queen mother lived to 101, the Queen will be that age in 2027, she'llprobably live longer than her mother. So we've still got some time to got. I think Charles will make it 2 years after his mother.

I know I am not in the Commonwealth, but always lived close to the border and in PA where, n a clear day, you could see Canada across lake Erie. The royal family has always been special to me.

So from this southerner:

Quote:
Meanwhile hoping the "cleaning lady" portrait can be replaced with something more regal before the end of her reign.

Also I have heard this called the "Everybody's Grandmother" effigy. I cannot understand how the Queen ever approved this one. It just does not portray the regal atmosphere that the Aussie one does.

I hope the Queen at least stays on the throne until she passes Queen Victoria's record. I admit I have been wondering if this is not what she is planning to do before passing the throne to Charles.

I hope this next one offends no one here, but I am known for saying what is on my mind. I hope when Charles gets the throne, He does what the Queen's uncle did and immediately passes the throne on. The reason I say this is b/c I remember when Charles got divorced, the Queen was very upset with this, wishing the royal family's reputation on the throne to be one not including a divorced monarch. I also agree Charles is a little "different."

I would love to see William on the Throne. Like the rest of the word seems to, I really enjoy the new royal couple and am excited that within 9 months it may be a threesome!

And one last observation...
Its always neem onteresting to me that the royal family has had some really nice looking people in it. The UK monarchs of the 1900s made such good looking people on coins. Even when a child I thought George V's effigy was exactly what a king "should" look like. His effigy is the kind of picture a child gets in their head when they are thinking about a story of a king in a castle.

His son, although not regal looking on the coins, still had a handsome looking effigy. Queen Elizabeth, I always thought, was a pretty women. I have liked all of her effigies until the present one.

Let's skip Charles ...well... he married Diana! Maybe they will put her on the coins?

And now William and Kate - a sharp looking couple. I'd like to see him on coins.

Man, all this talk is making me wish I still lived close to the border. I miss my "other home!"

@Earle42
I am amazed that you, as an American, share my perceptions of the British Royalty. All of your comments are a reflection of my own sentiments regarding Queen Elizabeth. I'm not a "United Empire Loyalist" type, but I've always held Elizabeth in high regard. Whatever circumstances have evolved around her, she has always maintained a dignified and serene manner. My mother was a great admirer of her (and actually looked a lot like her). My mother's mother immigrated from London.

When I was young my folks had a cottage on the north shore of Lake Erie. At night, we could see a glow from the shore to the south, which we supposed might be from Erie, PA.

I've always thought that the current effigy of the Queen on Canadian coinage was not the most flattering. A change would not be a bad thing.

Is it time for a change in tradition?

Going forward, I think it would be cool if (when William comes to throne) instead of depicting the Monarch, coinage should depict the Monarch's spouse!

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Kate in my pocket every day! ;) but on the other hand I've never really cared for anything royal family related. What have they done for me personally? Nothing I can think of besides appear on TV waving around and well, that's about it. I see the queen on the court room wall (fighting traffic tickets of course :p) but that it. They haven't affected my life in any way and are just "there". I would be perfectly fine without them all in my life.

My vote is for King Chucky, I want to look for half dollar die clashes, and with those ears the hearing aid clashes should be massive.

You sound like me forty years ago

The British Royalty is more symbolic than functional to us in Canada. As Canadians, we tend to value our independence and snub external influence as we establish our place in the world.

But I appreciate our heritage.

Yes, I believe that the effigies on Oz and UK coins are more attractive.

I think we're all in agreement on the Kate thing
