at the coin store. Bought a few pennies and they just handed it to me from the register. I was thinking about telling them but I had already walked out and figured they'd be annoyed with me acting like I knew better. Maybe I'll come back and search the loose coing box a little harder later.

Your lucky then. I've been coin roll hunting for over a year and have never pulled silver out yet, granted I only really hunt quarters.

I've had that happen a couple times, but it's never been anything crazy (silver roosy or War Nickel). I think for me it's because I do business frequently with them, so they throw a bone my way every once in a while to make sure I return. :) Only Ag I've found in the wild are a couple of war nickles and some 40% Kennedy halves. jarwulf, what silver did you get in change?

Yeah, it was no biggie just a roosie, I just thought it was strange that a coin store wouldn't check its change or maybe it was just some cool gag they were doing. Still though considering I spent <50c it was pretty nice.

I'd be willing to bet this was no publicity stunt, this was a mistake. My scenario is this:
Two coin collectors walk into a cat house.....Oops, wrong scenario.....A customer comes in and sells the coin shop a large quantity of loose silver. During the counting and sorting one of the Rosie's ends up on the floor. Later that day an employee sees the dime, picks it up, and tosses into the register assuming that's where it came from. That is strange for a coin shop to give you free silver. Mistakes happen on both sides of the counter but usually they are made from the customer side.

I have a water cooler jug about 1/4 full of various coin denominations and since last year when I got into collecting, I kept saying, I need to look through that chug to see if I just dumped anything worth saving in there, well this weekend, I finally had some free time and decided to dump the contents on the table, it was a little overwhelming to say the least and I started with the intentions of looking over every coin with my loop, but I got tired and started looking at them with just my eyes and sorting faster and faster, I will have to go over it again someday, but I did manage to pull out a few half dollars (non-silver), 2 Presidential dollars from 2009 (not bad looking all things considering) and 3 silver roosevelts and 1 silver washington. I doubt I have any more silver in there, they key is to look at the pennies as I did see quite a few wheats in there, but I just got tired. I still feel like it was worth it just to find 4 more silver coins for my hoard!
