So I was doing a 20th century type album for my little boy as I thought it would be fun to give him when hes older and I bought one of those harris folders. Most of the coins in the set were being downgrades from my Dansco 7070 that were going in there with the occasional purchase. But as I was doing the set I remembered how much I disliked folders versus albums. You can't see both sides of the coin and you have to cram them in there. So I ran across a Whitman 20th century type album and man that thing looks to be awesome I ordered it Monday. It should be here today, the only difficult coin in it is the T1 Standing Liberty quarter everything else is totally affordable. Heck even found a nice VG T1 for just $65 so thats not even that bad. These are the sellers photos I don't get the coins alas Then I run across a Whitman Type album that is not as comprehensive as the Dansco 7070 so to me this is another great album to think about throwing downgrades into since it won't be as hard to complete. I love type sets more than doing a set of a particular series of coins. I am thinking of making my own world type set out of a empty danco album even found some pages for it. I really want to do a canadian type set but keep hitting ro(130427) Not Allowed - Auto-Removeds as for some reason they don't seem to make them and I am even having trouble finding pages. Whitman used to the classic book series with a type set for small and large canadian coins in two albums would just like something more modern. There is also a 20th and 21th century Whitman type set that I have been scouring the web for images for haven't found it yet. Tempted to just order it and see whats in it. I think it goes to 50 coins instead of 40. So there are alternatives to the 7070 still love my 7070 but seems like you can go elsewhere too since Dansco doesn't seem in too big of hurry to ever update there type set. I only have the Whitman album for quarters but I'm crazy about it. I don't care for the folders for the same reasons you mentioned, but those were the first things I bought for my coin collection when I was a kid. So I like the old navy blue -- reminds me of when I was a kid.

Although this is a sort of Dansco Forum, I'm a real Whitman Album person. Out of well over 100 Albums, most are Whitman. A few Dansco but most are Whitman. So many things I like about Whitman over Dansco so I'll stick to them. My biggest complaint about Dansco is they just don't know how to put enough slots for all the cins of a series. Usually a few empty slots at the end of most Albums but never in Whitman.

I notice the Whitman's only has 39 slots for coins when the Dansco has 76? I like the blue of the books but not the lack of mints it holds... do they make another book for earlier types? if there's more than one book in the series I would definitely buy a set to complete for my other son... having two kids makes buying coins like buying toys, if you buy a toy for one you have to buy the exact same toy for the other... this is going to be fun...

Stylez as far as the 20th century type goes thats all the coins they do, there is 20th and 21st century type that I have scoured the internet looking for pictures of what is in it but can't find anything. There regular type set is also a lot more basic than the Dansco makes it easier to do for sure and a great starter album for your kids 43 coins instead of the 76 in the Dansco 7070. There is many options too like littleton and you can even look at the whitman book series from the 1960's(there is whitman book series that is even more comprehensive than the 7070 I might have images for it somewhere I will look). I just like that 20th century type for kids it has lots of fun coins in it that a kid would never see otherwise likes barbers and standing liberties and walking liberties without being too pricey. The set can easily be done for less than a couple hundred dollars the only coin that is going to cost any real money is the T1 standing liberty. I think too much love is thrown to Dansco that doesn't seem to care to update their albums I love my 7070 but I am loving finding alternatives. I now have 2 danscos and 2 whitmans (7070 and Sacagawea for Dansco and Presidential dollars and the 20th century type for Whitman).

Whitman blue does look nice. That's what I want to house my Lincoln wheat set in... Now THAT would look good.

The Copper color just doesn't stand out well in a Dansco. Whitman, being Blue, allows a Copper colored coin to stand out much better.

I need to get a album of some kind for my Statehood Quarters, I am actually thinking of getting the 2 set dansco album with the proofs so I can improve on the set a bit. The set was given to me by mom as a Christmas gift a few years back and is just in an folder just never gone out and got an album. Thought it might be fun to also add the proofs though and would give me something cheap to work on while doing my more expensive 7070. I am not much of a copper fan but your right the cents would look a lot better in a Whitman. I just don't like the Lincoln Cent at all but I do love the Indian Head cent and thought that might be a fun set to tackle one of these days. I was thinking about that it still feels like I am new collector even though I have been collecting for over 10 years because I sold the majority of my collection in college so its like I am starting all over again. I had a lot more sets at one time but my main focus has been to complete the 7070 something I have never done but its also fun to have the downgrade album for my little boy in case I see a nicer coin I want for my 7070.

Ok found something I don't like about the whitman the holes are a tad too big so the coins tend to rotate after a bit, Dansco holes are much better fits for the coins.

Quote: do they make another book for earlier types? I don't know if they still make it but they did make a two book set for US type coins that contains a LOT more than the Dansco covers. It's problem is at the other end. It was made before the Bicentennials came out and possibly be fore the Ike dollar. And it doesn't have gold. It has 5 holes for Half Cents, 7 for large cents, 9 for small cents, 1 Two Cent, 4 Three Cent, 9 nickels, 9 Half Dimes, 15 dimes, 1 Twenty Cent, 16 quarters, 18 halves, and 7 silver dollars for a total of 101 holes. That's 25 more types than the Dansco and it doesn't include several of the later types that the Dansco does include. (rough count it lacks 16 more types to bring it up to the end of the 20th century.) It is a killer set and the one I Started with. I still lack 3 Half Dimes, 1 dime, 1 quarter, 2 half dollars, and 2 dollars of completing it. I'll never finish it because of the draped bust small eagle half dollar which is mid five figures even in Fair condition.
