If it's just regular paint than acetone or xylene should strip it off.

Be sure you don't use acetone from nail polish remover, use pure acetone.

I have been using it for awhile now - inexpensive from Wal Mart or Dollar Store. Remember to use pure as the perfumes for ail polish remover can leave a residue. Here is what I get: Remember acetone is non-toxic (found in grapes we eat!) and little girls use it all the time to remove nail polish. Note the label says Denatonium is added. The Denatonium is said to be the most bitter substance known, and therefore is used in quantities of only 10 parts per million(!) making its host liquid more bitter than people can tolerate. I also read the definition of "pure" acetone allows for 5000 parts per million of unknown chemical. So the incredibly small amount of the Denatonium used is a moot point since it is very well within tolerance levels pure acetone acetone must have in order to be called pure. I think the last I paid was 1.89 for the larger bottle at Walmart and my wife bought the other one at the dollar store for 1.75 edited for price correction

Wow, you must be doing a lot of dipping. I bought a pint 3 years ago and still have half. I never got the results from using it as everyone says. I must not be soaking the coins long enough.

I soak almost everything I buy... why not? Can't hurt and it's cheap.

Acetone should remove the paint if you really want it removed. However, why bother? Keep it as is as a conversation item. And Acetone is available in Quart sizes at places like Target, Walmart, Kmart, Menards, Home Depot and many, many other places that carry painting supplies. It's also good for using on cleaning PVC piping, getting paint of some metal items if your clumsy while painting. Those little bottles sold as a Finger Nail Polish remover could cost more than the coin you want to get the paint off.

Quote: I never got the results from using it as everyone says. I must not be soaking the coins long enough. What kind of results are you looking for? It is seldom that a coin would need more than a few seconds in the acetone. Unless you are trying to dissolve a caked on mass of gunk.

I decided to just keep the paint. I only paid 15 for it. And I don't have any others like it.
