I've always tried to spend my disposable income on things that I could enjoy, and would appreciate in value. Coins just fit my life style. I started with motorcycles and ran out of storage space. So I switched to firearms. Ran out of room and now collect coins.

Both. I'm downsizing my personal collection to just where my passion is, old copper and classic type.
I've made nice gains on other coins in my collection so those are slowly being sold.
Then there are a few I don't think I'll ever sell.
Those are the ones I'm emotionally attached to.

Both as well. When I can combine both goals I do but I certainly have things that wouldnt fit that mold at all that I enjoy. I guess you could say those things are investments in my emotional well being

I think you "collect" coins for fun but you can "buy" coins for investment.

I collect them as a hobby. I never even sold one of my coins.

Neither have I. Although I have traded surplus roll-found silver Kennedy half dollars for Franklin half dollars.

Hobby only. But when spending a lot of money on new additions to my collection I try to get coins that I hope will increase in value or at least hold their value...

I do not normally sell my coins but I occasionally upgrade.

Interesting results so far.

I had to answer both. I wouldn't collect if I didn't enjoy it. One of the things I enjoy about the hobby is knowing that if I choose coins well I can resell without losing money, & if I choose wisely I can even make a profit. Nothing like doing something you enjoy that can make a profit......if I could only convince myself to sell.

I collect coins, I invest in real estate. I have bought and sold hundreds of properties.

I have never sold any of the coins I have bought or traded for.
I don't buy/spend foolishly, but I couldn't care less what silver/gold does
