unusual situation. If you had to pick one of the three
choices, which would you choose?
1901 S $5.00 gold Liberty

Which-Would-You-Choose-Gold,-Silver-Or-Cash

Which-Would-You-Choose-Gold,-Silver-Or-Cash

Or
2- Morgan dollars
6 - 1oz Silver Eagles
14 - 90% silver half dollars
Picture was taken before we did the math.
So only 6 Silver Eagles .. not 8 in picture.

Which-Would-You-Choose-Gold,-Silver-Or-Cash

or $300 in cash

I believe there is more upside to the silver. But, I personally would prefer the gold:)

I would go with the cash, because I dont want the Silver Eagles but the silver is also good.

With the cash I could buy some coins that I want and not be left with the Silver Eagles to sell.

I'd eliminate the $300 cash right off the bat because either the gold or the silver are worth a bit more than $300.

The silver lot (with 6 ASE) would be around $320 retail assuming the Morgans/halves are run of the mill common dates in circulated condition. Melt on the silver is $255 but ASE and Morgans always bring good premiums at retail sale. The gold piece looks AU at least and possibly MS so if it's problem-free the value is $400+. Melt on the gold is $304.

Gold wins hands down strictly on a cash value basis.

Let's count...
$300 is 10000 rubles, approximately. I tend to get more as birthday gifts (if barely).
I could probably sell the ASEs for slightly under 1000 rubles each (I don't care about these enough to retain them), and typical price for Morgans is 1500 rubles each (probably down to 1000 if selling). As for the halves, I have no idea of typical price; maybe 500 each would be reasonable. That would make the silver total 15000 rubles - about half of it stuck in coins I would want to sell (and I have zero experience of selling).
With that in mind: gold all the way. I don't have a gold coin yet, and all estimates seem to say that I would have to pay almost as much (if not more) even for a gold coin much smaller - and/or far newer - than this half eagle; just make sure that the coin is in at least a 2x2, because I doubt I could save it from random hits (or just plain being lost) if its only protection is one of my ziploc bags!

Total spot price for the silver and gold lots needs to be compared.
If they are nearly equal the gold is a 'no brainer' because of the condition, PROVIDED THAT there are no valuable varieties or whatever to be cherry picked in the silver lot.

I would have liked to have a very close look at the silver coins for grading purposes, but you need to feel confident within yourself to grade and value each acordingly.

Compare that to the cash.

Let's see... there aren't that many gold coins I want... I'll take the silver! I don't care much for the silver eagles though. I'll cash in the silver eagles, take that cash and spend it all on Mercury dimes!

I went to sleep not knowing which one to pick ... and woke up the same way.

For me either one is just adding gold or silver to my collection.
Meaning there is no hole to fill in any of my albums needing these
coins.

It seems like it is slow in the LCS and there is nothing right now that
I would like to buy or trade for.

At this time I am leaning toward the silver.

Depends where I was at...

If I am hoarding/stacking then the silver
If I just wanted a nice coin then the gold
If I had to finish xmas shopping today then the cash....
