I received a phone call late in October from a company I had one of my storage pods with. They told me that division of their company had just been sold and I had 30 days to ship my pod somewhere else for storage or unload it myself. Not really liking this as it cost about $1000 to have it shipped to me last minute, but I sure didn't want to loose everything inside of it. It had been stored in another state, I thought I would be moving to, for the past 7 years. Anyways I had it shipped out and unloaded it into a new storage locker I had rented, and the past few weeks I've slowly been going through the boxes. My first find was an old locked briefcase with a lot of old invoices and papers from my coin business, along with about 20 pages of vinyl 2x2 holder pages full of Indian Head cents! Had no idea I even owned these after so long. Last night I opened a box containing a large inkjet printer and under all the packing peanuts I found 2 three row 1.25 x 1.25 holders full of cents through quarters, all silver and high grade for the most part! Prices on the old holders were incredibly low, they were from my old coin show stock of common stuff, the dimes I had priced at $1.00 each or less, Mercury's (circulated) and Roosevelts (UNCs)! I completely forgot I even had those two boxes anymore. Plus the best find a cigar box with Mint and proof sets, (no silver) Blue Ikes, and a bunch of currency (Star notes, $2 bills and a $50 note series 1934) $66.00 face value, some stamps and first day covers, all stuff that I had accumulated from other purchases during my span of coin dealing, mostly stuff that wouldn't have sold back then (late 1980's). One dime box full of UNC Lincoln rolls mostly wheaties! 1940-1960's dates A couple of wartime Jefferson rolls and one roll of Buffalo nickels. Plus a lot of coin books I had stored as well, tons of my Morgan dollar books, and old auction catalogs. So much fun going through all of this old inventory I had no idea I still had. Here is a quick photo of last nights find, from the iPhone so quality not so great, but it should give you an idea of how many coins there are to go through! I tossed out a few of the dimes but you can't really see how nice most of them are. And another shot showing some of the 1.5 x1.5 pages an original 1956 "P" mint set, 1940 P mint set, 1976 silver proof set, some sample slabs, a couple 1921 Morgan dollar VAM discovery coins from Terry Anderson's memorial auction, some rolls of quarters (in half tubes), a box of foreign coins, some medals, and a bunch of loose coins.

I've already found some fantastic RED high grade LWC, plus some circulated semi-key dates like early S mints including 1909-S, (4) 1924-D and some choice 1943 steel cents. Also a partial War Nickel group, (some with full steps). The Terry Anderson 1921-S VAM 1E discovery coin (Lot #701), the other two VAMs pictured, are both 1887-O VAM 22 coins, one came full circle, I bought it at Carlsbad Village Coin bid board in California, then I sold it, reluctantly to a good friend to help him complete his TOP 100 collection, he then upgraded it and sold it to Terry. I re-purchased the coin from the "Terry Anderson Collection auction" held by Jeff Oxman & Michael Fey, after Terry had passed away (not knowing it was my original find). The coin is still in my original holder with Terry's notes added to it (very sentimental piece for me now). Terry Armstrong was a giant in the VAM collecting world and a good friend and mentor.

Quote: WOW!!, Westcoin, how could you have forgot about that great looking stuff.. Basically it's been stuffed into storage since 1996, after I got divorced, most of the coins haven't seen the light of day since 1992. I knew I had the 2 red boxes full of 1.25 coin holders but thought they may have been stolen as I couldn't remember packing them away. The 3 Morgan I mentioned I was sure had been stolen (certainly glad they weren't). I thought I'd sold off all the rolled stuff and the proof/mint sets. The bills were a surprise as were the pages holding the 1.25" mylars. Thought maybe the ex had ended up with it and may have sold it off unbeknownst to me, this has been a pleasant surprise for sure! Next up photos of the better pieces and roll searching for varieties and high grade pieces that may be worth slabbing.

I've done the same thing...forgot about some coins somewhere, only to come across them. Usually put them where they were, so I wouldn't forget them...lol. Nothing quite as nice or substantial as yours though! Congrats, nothing better then an early xmas present to yourself! Looking forward to seeing some pics.

The best kind of treasure hunt, the rediscovery of coins you own and had forgotten you had. It is quite the treasure chest!! I love it when I rediscover money and coins I tucked away and forgot I had. I tuck things away quite often. Sometimes I don't stumble across them for years. This is like attending a private coin show, only you already own it!! It must be thrilling to go through this stash. West coin I have always enjoyed reading your posts. How many years have you been a dealer and at what age did you start dealing? I look forward to reading more posts and seeing your photos.

THAT...is nothing but FUN!
I actually snag a cigar box (nothing special) and toss UNC coins from change, a new roll or two of cents, and singles that I pick up here and there. When the box is full, just place in the back of the safe and forget it. Will definitely be a lot of fun, as you have experienced, when these boxes are opened again.
