I had an 1881-s morgan that was the most prooflike coin I have ever seen. It was nicer then my pr66 cameo. It had a few small hairlines but nothing major. I and my LCS thought it was high 65. He just got it back today and it was graded at a 62pl. I'm honestly shocked and so was he. Maybe we are distracted by the mirror fields? It at least should have been dmpl. Even the rim edge is pl. I know, you need photos. I have to go get it and ill take pics. I'm a little Disappointed.

PL coins tend to highlight the tiny marks on the field, which can get them a lower grade. But then sometimes the graders are just in a bad mood.....the pics will tell.

That stinks. You can always attempt a crossover at some point, but it will be tough to get it 4 points higher. Looking forward to the photos.

1865 Two Cent Piece... extremely well struck with clean fields. I was guessing MS64-65B or RB. I got Questionable color / Uncirculated details. I was crushed. Frankly I felt robbed and I will never use a TPG again.

I've had a few coins grade lower... Part of the game. I've had a couple come back with no grade at all. Could be worse.

I'm sure you are disappointing in those grading results ... certainly your MS62PL grade was not what you expected. Too flip this discussion on it's head ... I have often been thrilled by a lower grade than expected ... as a lowball collector for a portion of my sets I want under graded coins. Most recent example was my 1918-S Walking Liberty half dollar ... certified as PCGS PO01 ... the only PO01 certified Walker. To each their own in pursuit of their individual collecting pursuits ... not many folks out there would be thrilled with a lower grade than expected. Hopeful that you find peace with your coin. David

Which TPG did you send the coin to? From personal experience and a few that I have seen on the board, ANACS seems to reluctant to go above a 62 on coins which have poor luster for the date. A PL coin can still have poor luster when compared to others from the same date like one which has been dipped one too many times. A photo is necessary to even begin to hypothesize the reason.

Yea I sent some coins in from a Prestige 1997 Botanic set and they came back lower than what I expected and its happened with single coins as well.

No. Never had either the need or inclination to send a coin off to be graded. However that is always subject to change depending upon my mood.

It happens all the time, probably part of the grand marketing scheme...I drink the Kool-Aid though :)Break that coin out and send it in again.

I recently started creating/designing medallions, sent the first 10 of 1591 to ANACS to be graded. A week passed and I received a call, the medallions were to thick to be housed in their holders. I was pretty disappointed, so I became a member of NGC, they have oversized holders.

Don't be disappointed too much. It's just a game. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

Its so much nicer in hand. The photo I took shows a bunch of hairlines in the field off her nose. You cant really see that in hand. I'm over it. Pl coins just show more. I studied that coin and I guess its right. Its no big deal anymore.

Saying as nice as possible, If your LCS thought that was a MS65 coin then I would question their opinion in the future.

I agree with GR58, it doesn't look clean enough to be a MS65. It's a generous 62 in my opinion.
