I am all for redoing the dime, but I am afraid of what might replace Roosevelt. Reagen seems to get the most discussion but that is a scary thought for liberals and he is still too polarizing.
I like the idea of returning to abstract images of Liberty and would love to see the Winged Liberty motif that Roosevelt replaced. 2016 would be a great year to return to it, it's 100th anniversary. Even if it is only for a single year the Winged Liberty design was brilliant in its beauty.

AlbumAccumulator as good as an idea as this might have been, the quickest and surest way of killing any bill by any house of congress it to set up a committee to study the problem. This way nothing has to be done and everyone can say well we studied the problem and is died in committee for unknown reasons when the populace knows that it was just studied to death because no one wanted to act like a senator or representative should be acting and shepherding the bill from on place to another. In other words acting like a statesman rather than as a political lackey would and following orders.
Although bringing back retired images is not a perfect solution at least it would be a change - refreshing or not.

How about this? Put Samuel Adams on the dime, and have the enabling legislation stipulate that the new coin be redeemable as legal tender for a beer.

Why not Teddy Roosevelt. OR put both Roosevelts on the Dime. One in front, one in back.

No more dead presidents :(. Anyone agree that the new Jefferson nickel looks horrible too. Makes me afraid of any changes. The shield on the penny was a improvement atleast.

Bring back Liberty--it has some historical precedent too, as many founding fathers didn't want rulers on our coins. The Mercury dime was an incredible design to me. What other coin looks so good even when worn--the Morgan dollar? Of course, the silver patina on these issues helped. I'd like to see a newer interpretation of Liberty that is of the same caliber as the Merc'.

Time get rid of our 1c and 5c coins. Start rounding to nearest 10c. Mint a new smaller, octagonal 50c to replace the quarter. That way we would only need 10c, 50c, $1 and maybe a $2 coin. I happen to like the Roosevelt dime, so my vote is to leave the design.

Quote: Start rounding to nearest 10c. Really, this whole argument or discussion about rounding to either the next nickel or dime is really a frivolous attitude about money. A lot of which is not in the pockets of the ones doing the proposing. A item that costs $3 in a state that has a 8% sales tax would have a true tax rate of $.03 but under the proposal presented would see an extra $.07 gallantly taken from someones pocket an given to a state taxing agency who is inept in managing its own budget but willing to take the money and run with it and quite honestly be more spendthrift that the people who are pushing this preposterous proposal. The extra $.07 would be a 2.3% increase of your purchase and a similar increase to state coffers. I would suggest that everyone who proposes this extra taxation learn to be much more frugal with their own money and push with equal fervor the frugality of their state governments. I'm not sure that a lot of people could tolerate the added tax on their purchases. The other thing that should be kept in mind is that the same taxing authorities could (through the use of recently expanded eminent domain) take your home if their think that they can make better use of the land by turning aroung and selling it to a developer who would builder higher end homes that you could not afford but the increase taxes would increase the same coffers that this proposal is trying to add to. Let's think this proposal through better. A lot of times simple solutions lead to unintended results.

Quote:I'm afraid if they retired the Roosevelt dime, congress would only look for some other political figure to honor Congress tried to replace Roosevelt with Reagan but Nancy rejected the idea. Roosevelt had been an idol of Reagan's and Nancy felt the Ronald would not want his image to replace him. Once Nancy dies that may change. Quote: Every other former president is still alive and is unable to receive the honor. There is no law that would prevent a living President from being placed on the dime.

Not sure if there is a similar law but in the USA a person must be dead for a set period of time before they can be on a postage stamp. Regardless, there has never been a live person on circulation coins in the US, this harkens back to the founding of the nation when they wanted to swear off royalty. Even the Presidential dollar series specifies dead presidents only. A living president, ex or not, will be not placed on the dime.
