Alright, I had some time to myself this morning and started going though my pile of OBW rolls. Here is what I found (sorry to any dial up people)-

First off is what I think is the first of 2 different DDR's

Last is what looks like a DDO to me or a really worn out die-

I hate to be the bearer of bad news especially when I can't be 100% sure but I don't believe these coins show any double die strikes at all. I could be wrong (GOD knows I have been before) but it looks like mechanical or Die Deterioration to me. The reason I say this is I just don't see any split serifs anywhere on either of the coins and even though this isn't a 100% requirement for a DD it sure is a good thing to look for

Chris: First I would like to commend you on better images. There is a big difference in the quality you've achieved. But here is my assement of your coins.
1. Machine Doubling. See the step look on one side of your letters of the reverse. Machine Doubling is very common for 68 & 69.
2. I'm not sure what you are showing, but appears normal to me from what I can see.
3. I don't think you are correct about it being a very old die. It looks like a MDS coin to me which is very nice. There looks like something going on on the GOD on the tops of the letters, but minor. I found one that is not listed yet to show you the doubling areas to search for doubling.

Check the Pick Up Points I have images for and you will see what areas the doubling happens for this year.

Richard,

Thanks for the assessment and compliment (I am trying)! I forgot to say in my original post that I did all of the pics "Coop" style. ie: freehand on my scope. I went and took another look at the first one and you and Brian are right, I should have looked for the splits. On the second one I thought I saw a split on the upper left part of the "E" in United, but the more I look at it the more it looks like Machine Doubling. I think I will keep the first one for a future reference.

The third cent, that is what I saw on the upper left of the "G" in god I saw a slight split that was rounded which made me think DDO. That was the only spot where I could see a split, all of the other devices just looked "fat" or "thick" to me.

I appreciate yours and Brian's help, I am starting to get this, I got around 50 more different OBW rolls to go through and have a tube of keepers already to go through again.

On a side note and off topic, does anybody collect the rolls themselves just for the wrapper? Some of these I feel a little guilty tearing into them, some are really nice, nice blues, reds, federal reserves from all over, New York State Bridge Authority, some with the old style phone numbers like 31Y. I always pause before tearing into them and wonder if they would be worth more unopened. Some of the wheats have really old wrappers especially the ones from the 40's.

Chris - Only thing that might be a doubled die there is the photo of GOD. Looks like it could be a minor doubled die, but not completely sure. I'd have to see the coin to be sure.

I agree with coppercoins, possible minor DDO but all the rest is Mechanical Doubling.

Thanks,
Bill

Usually when you find a split on one letter/number I don't get excited. If I find it on one or more of the letters/numbers I look closer. On one letter/number you could have a bag nick. So I look closer but don't give too excited till I see more uniformly on the coin.
