I realize many of you like to wait and buy them on the 2ndary market later because they don't usually hold value (with a couple exceptions), so curious who bought and who's waiting.
I like to get my sets out of the way so I'm waiting until Thursday to lump it into another purchase to save shipping. Edited by CelticKnot 03/24/2015 5:35 pm

I wait, and get them on the secondary market and save a few bucks.

Well, it looks like I'm one of the few who tries to get them online. I got my email yesterday that told me they were ready, but when I logged into my Mint account, there was nothing in my enrollment list. I will need to call the Mint later today and find out what happened to my account.
I had subscribed for all of the major items last year to get the price deals (each item was around $5 less; basically it amounts to free shipping). I wasn't sure if they would mail them separately or send me all the items (and charge my credit card) at the end of the year. I know that the last time I checked my account all of the 'booked' items were still listed, but now it's bone dry.
Does anyone else have subscriptions to the Mint? If so, how has it worked for you so far?

I too got my email telling me that my order had been placed - I am on a subscription for a proof and an uncirculated set every year.
I don't remember any price deals for subscribing though. Otherwise it has worked fine overall.
One thing about buying in the secondary market - and I am not sure there is anything to this or not - but I have heard that people buy sets from the mint, cherry pick the best coins or sets and then sell the rest on the open market. The idea being an MS-69 or 70 coin can be worth a lot more than the set itself.

When I bought proof sets it was always direct from the mint. I feared buying them on the secondary market because I didn't want a sub par set. I think a lot of sets sold on ebay were "leftovers" from cherry pickers.

That's where my head is. I don't mind paying a few extra dollars for "unsearched" (ahem) sets with crisp packaging. I've had to fill in a couple sets ebay and the packaging has been less than stellar (scratched cases, beat up cardboard). I'll be placing my order tomorrow. Quote: I don't remember any price deals for subscribing though. Last year the Mint offered a 10% discount for orders placed via subscription. They did away with it sometime late 2014. I have since canceled all my subscriptions and order everything manually to combine shipping.

Not yet.
Most times I wait until I have a few items to order. Which is getting close.

Mine was on hold because they no longer had my credit card information on file; I had to call to add it back.

I am just starting to buy proof sets for at most $5 a set on the bay in order to get the Kennedy halves for my album. For the modern sets I think I will just have to buy the proof half dollar separately since the sets are getting so big...

I bought my 5 (2 for me and 3 for each of my children) immediately when they became available. I literally set there hitting F5 on my keyboard until they opened them up for sale. They've already shipped. In theory, I should get the first strikes. I realize that more often then not I could do better by waiting. However, it's not all about the money and I have them in hand. Plus, I'm able to look each over in great detail. If I find an imperfection (not an error, I'd keep those), then it goes back for replacement.

, Bret! Quote: In theory, I should get the first strikes. There's some logic to that I suppose, though it's probably more accurate if you say "could" vs. "should". I'm with you. I want mine direct from the mint.
