Bravo, Lady! You keep spending and I bet keep generating unusual comments. I used a lot of Kenneday halves when I was up in Jersey/Philly area. Everytime I went over the bridge I paid in halves and the person in the booth always had an interesting comment to make.

If you're trying to put together a set and need certain dates, I might be able to find them in my stash for you. Just email me with a list and you can get them from me for face value if interested. Can't promise anything on condition. I'm in "D" country too, but I seem to be getting the 90s P except 99P is very tough.

In my opinion, the JFK set is one of the most underrated of all modern coin sets. You have to go through thousands of dollars to get a complete business strike set (I still am short two coins: 78D and 88D), and many, many 80s coins are in terrible shape from being used in the casinos, so putting together higher quality sets from circulation is a major challenge. You can't as easily say that about cents (59-present), nickels (60-present), dimes (65-pres) and quarters (65-present). I just got an AU 59 cent last month from a roll.

I like the Kennedys a lot. While none except the varieties is especially tough in unc there are many tough in attractive condition whether it's XF or chBU.

But don't underestimate the difficulty of putting together other sets. Pennies are tough because low mintage coins require that you look at large numbers of coins to find. Attrition is staggering on these so some dates are hard to find.

Nickels may be the easiest but you'll find attractive coins from the '60's and '70's a little tough.

Dimes are like quarters except they have a much higher attrition. They don't circulate quite so readily since people won't go through their change to spend dimes but early dates still tend to be universally worn. Finding a coin like a nice well made and undamaged 1969 or 1971 is getting very tough.

Quarters are my personal favorites. They have much lower attrition but there are many neat varieties and they are heavily used and heavily circulated. When coupled with the fact that most were horribly made you'll find dozens of dates for which it is hard to find examples.

I really like all the moderns a lot and don't mean to take anything away from the half dollars. These haven't circulated as heavily so there are advantages with this as well. The existence of tough dates in circulation will make them attractive to many individuals.

People really should try all the denominations if for no other reason so they have a reference set to identify varieties and see when changes were made.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Well since you all are sorting them out by year, any of you feel like helping someone a fellow collector fill his UNC Kennedy half Dansco.

If so send me a PM and I will send my want lists.

Cladking: thanks for your post, that was eye-opening for me and moves me more back to the center with moderns. Very much appreciated.

Hi,

I just got finished searching 10000 coins or 5000 dollars face on half dollars. I amazed all the unc or bu coins out those 10 boxes. Tons of 1971 thru 2001 unused coins. So many I cant keep them will cash them into my bank. Lots of my bu coins were ruined where silver hunters defaced with markers . What an waste on bu coins.

I did build 4 sets out of it them . Tons year 2000 p and d coins. I got sick of looking that them. Onley bu coins I save out those boxs are 1983/1982 non mint set years. This find an person could make solid date roll set of all those bu coins from 1971 thru 2001 if they wanted an set.

Ow well I cant keep them all will cash them into banks to buy another 10 boxs of them .

Sorry I cant give you speadsheat like above. 10000 coins is to much to count since there is to many. Its would take days to short and count them.

I did learn something its rip off to to buy those bu coins from dealers since you find tons them in bank boxs if buy boxs in large scale like I did.

If folks use markers on their halves, most likely, it can be removed with alcohol (rubbing alcohol). I don't think it will leave a residue, but haven't tried.

Chevy: I am amazed at how much roll searching you do. You must spend hours every day doing this. I think my wife would get mad at me if I spent that much time on it.

I posted earlier that I was getting a bank box of $500 of halves to sort through this weekend. I just got it home - very heavy to carrry in a backpack I can tell you. I should wait to post the entire haul, but I just finihed the first roll and scored 8 40% silver halves (2 1965; 1 1967; 2 1968; 3 1969!

Needless to say I'm stoked! I can't wait to get to the rest of the box, but it's going to have to wait until after dinner.

More later (I hope).

Excited? I've done 12 rolls so far and only one DIDN'T have silver in it! I'm sure this is an anomaly, but I'm not complaining. I'm up to 59 silver halves (all 40%). The only "not for circulation" that I've pulled so far is a 2006P in BU.

Here are the totals from the latest rolls I've searched. These were from a single bank box of $500 halves. I'm not sure why the silver content is so high but I'm not complaining. This is the first 40% and 90% silver I've found roll searching! I'll be calling the bank tomorrow and placing an order for another box. I'm sure it won't be so good (beginner's luck) but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway!

Good luck on your searching mycrob - I hope you hit silver!
