I normally throw in a BIN just in case someone wants it very quickly. However the best luck I have with them is when I Only use BIN and nothing else. I set the prices at the normal going rate and about 95% of things sell that way for me

With Proof sets I usually list a BIN I average the last ten closes and list my BIN just below that. About 1 in 3 auctions end with a BIN. I am going to be listing a large amount of silver when I get back I think I will try the BIN or best offer option and see where that goes. I will set the BIN at 5% over melt and probably accept a best offer of 10% under..

I use BIN in my auctions with good success. The secret is to keep your BIN low enough. There are far too many sellers that have absurd BIN, like circulated common Mercury dimes for $3-5 (+ shipping), for example. Sellers who use a reserve plus very high BIN often do NOT sell their coins.

I also mention that I have to have my items sell the first time around in BIN, because the fees would kill any minuscule profit if I have to re-list. While re-list you don't have to pay the listing fee, you still have to pay the other fees, so it adds up in a hurry.

I agree with mycrob. Most BIN prices are really high. I put mine up with reasonable prices and they sell rather quickly.
