I followed today's Torex session, wondering what people here thought of the prices, strong or weak, and if anyone here picked up any nice coins?

I picked up the 1c 1881H Micro D MS63 and 1c 1894 Thick 4 MS64 at starting prices, which I think were fantastic deals (probably finest known of their kind going for $500-$750 is absolutely ridiculous). Some of the gold coins got decent prices...JOPs sold well and are the only type to go consistently OVER trends (helped by my bids lol).. The very high end stuff did very well ($10,000+). WOW on the Vicky/Eddie 50c in MS...so the high end market seems to be fine and completely disconnected from the rest... The low to mid end stuff ($100-$2000) did horribly for the most part...most going for starting bid...very few going anywhere near trends... Btw...Lot 610...the 1858 5/8 dime is actually a plain 1858 worth $10, not the $1200 variety it sold as. Yikes for the buyer. Worst time to be a consignee IMO. You're getting 30-40% of trends if you're lucky...with 15-18% buyer fees going to TCNC.

Prices ended up being higher than I expected on most items, but I consider 50-60% of trends (including tax & BP) to be the actual price on most items, if not lower. That being said, I rarely buy a $500+ coin (not ready to join that club yet), so maybe some of it was a good price. I always find it surprising how some people value nickles from the 50's and dimes from the 40's, most did not sell in the higher grade range.
Did not buy anything this time around, came close on a couple.

The small cent prices were very strong. Someone paid $4600 for an MS66 1948 ATD cent and $872 for a Blunt 1947 ML in MS65. Nice prices on the 1920, 1934 & 1942 as well.

As seems to be the case with many of the auctions lately, some realized very well, while I did seem to see a few bargainish prices. I wasn't able to watch the auction live due to a hospital emergency with a family member, but I checked my bookmarked items when I got home and the few items I put bids on all went higher. I'll have to take a closer look later.

Got another Landon cent to add to my reds [ 1913 MS65] interesting to follow auctions these days, looks like it could be brutal for consignees as already mentioned.A nice lot of Landon coins sold for way below values on HA recently.

Was bidding on 1996 loonie error, thought around 400 to 500 with juice and taxes, sold for 1800.00 that's insane but cool.

I too was pleasantly surprised with the loon error... I tested that coin with my XRf a couple years ago, it was pretty cool. Quote: probably finest known of their kind Nope, and nope. At least three members of this forum have them in higher grades, cherry-picked (unattributed) from auctions several years ago...

I picked up a 1935 silver dollar. My first silver dollar business strike that I plan on keeping. Only had PL/SP before. I too was going for that loon error but it went way too high for my budget. I'm glad to know there are more out there :)

I heard there was an 1883 obv 4 5 cent piece in VF 30. Anyone know if that sold?

There was an obv 4 in F that didn't sell. The VF30 is obv 5 sold for 177 +tax. Not sure if it was annotated wrong and should be an obv 4. I'm not too familiar with 5 cent pieces

The thick 4 in 64 is not the finest known. I have a 65RB in a PCGS holder, as yet unattributed as a thick 4. I do not own it, but there is also another 81 micro D in an ICCS 63 red holder.

BTW I am the owner of the ICCS MS63 micro D. I viewed yours at the auction preview and....no disrespect...I do like mine better. Mine has really nice lustre. That being said I agree with Devlec that you got a great deal. I was kind of hoping it would sell for a lot more given my vested interest.
If anyone wants to make me an offer I can't refuse I am always willing to listen. That being said, I think this is one of the two coins that came from my grandfather (who had a CNA membership number with a single digit) that I will pass on to my kids. The other one is a 1942 cent struck on a cupro nickel planchet that appeared in the CNA journal a few years ago. I don't think that the kids will care about coins in general but I think they might keep one special thing each.
