I found a 1984 double die penny while going through a change jar at church. I'm only 16 so it's a little tricky getting my hands on rare coins. I basically look at every coin I can possibly get my hands on. I was in complete shock when I found this coin--I don't have a very big collection but for now this is my prized possession. I am only a beginner when it comes to grading so I need a little help. I would say it's either fine or very fine. And when it comes to value I am practically clueless. So I'd appreciate the expertise of someone a lot more experienced than I am. Here is the penny Coins I've found while searching: 3 Roosevelt dimes 1 Mercury dime 1 silver nickel 2 Buffalo nickels 3 silver quarters 1 40% silver Kennedy half dollar 1984 doubled ear penny

Sorry, I'm not much good at grading. I think I see what your getting at. I'll include a link to a previous post showing some known varieties at the bottom. Wait for the more knowledgeable for confirmation. Thanks, Doug. edit: PS: Might help if I include the link. https://goccf.com/t/250211&SearchTerms=double,ear

with tipping your church. Grade-wise, I am thinking AU or so, possibly details due to the large spot on the reverse.

Really Au? Wow that was unexpected lol. So then what would be the value of this coin? And I agree the church deserves a very large tip

And is it worth it to send to a grading company to get slabbed?

Congrats what an awesome find! Going by coppercoins and not being sure if it would get a details or high AU grade my rough guess would be somewhere between $75-$200 it's a big gap but that's a rough guess like I said...also check ebay 'sold items' and see what they have recently sold for in similar grades

I'm going to have to save up my money lol-I don't own a single slabbed coin-most of my coins I've found--with a few exceptions--I certainly will though

The spots would be the thing that would affect the grade of your coin.
