Hi Guys, The wierdest thing, I found 3 brand new AU 1957 pennys in a random bank roll from the Brinks truck. My camera is broke, but two of them have matching die cracks across the forehead, does that matter at all? Should I keep them together or doesn't it matter? Thank you for any comments and advice!

It would mean they are from the same die. Might qualify as spikers if we get pics.

In an OBW roll, the most I've found from a die pair is 19 in the same roll. (It was on a DDO and another time on a RPM) Nothing special about them being together. They just happened that way.

Hi Richard, do you search brand new rolls or something? What does OBW mean?

(Original Bank Wrapped) At coins shows I would pick up OBW rolls of different years. The 1960-D were the most profitable for me at a local show. But sources are drying up. Depending on the sell as to how valuable they were. If they were not a variety collector, they were good ones to by. If they were a variety collector, then they were probably not as good a deal. Why the difference? If you get a batch from the same source you could tell if they were a good lot by searching a few rolls of them. If they were all from the same lot, then they were pretty much the same run of coins. If they were good, you would search them all. If they were duds, then you would resell them later to other collectors as unsearched rolls. I was able to get 65 rolls of two different years from the source one day. One a roll of 1959-D and another lot of 1960-D cents. The 1959-D rolls were the best a lot of RPMs in them. The 1960-D rolls were duds. I still have some of each left still. I would go to the local show once a month and drop $100 on coins from that show. I bought a tubed roll of 1949-S at one show for $100. These are nice. They were pretty much all high grades pull from an original bank bag. It always varied what I was able to find. Eventually they ran out and there was nothing but junk rolls there. I would also buy tubed coins from collectors as well. Usually what ever they had, they knew to bring them to the show and I usually went home with them. But that is what it means Original Bank Wrapped rolls. On ebay a seller is selling them, but you can tell they have been refilled. They are loose in the tubes. They were all filled with the same tubes that had a location of a bank on them. Only one year did I find anything good in them.

Hi Coop, thanks for the info. I've thought about searching OBW for errors, what better way to find them, right? But it seems risky to buy them for my budget and it seems pointless and mind numbing to look at shields. Do you have a shop or something? I am in Santa Fe, but I'm in Phx a couple weeks every winter, would love to come in if you do!

I'm retired. Like you I've played guitar since 1964. I've stopped playing now and prefer karaoke. I worked in a grocery store for 45 years until my feet retired on me in 2010. I started coin/stamp collecting as a kid. When the children grew up and things slowed down, I went back into coins. Since about 1996 I started again and met my teacher online and have been hooked/addicted/loving the hobby since then. I got into this again when I started on the internet. My first chat board was on ebay coin forum about then. I've been glued to it since then. With the coin field came, education and editing images for this purpose. I'm getting closer now to 6,000 images on my image hosts. I've lived in Phoenix for 37 years now. (Iowa for 30 years)

I am with you on this - I am still raising 2 high schoolers and looking forward to college for one of them next year. Plus, those shiny orange coins hurt my eyes Trying to photograph them so they turn out nice and show the error or variety is practically impossible for me.

coop that was really nice of you to share about your history. I have always wondered if you were a teacher in your professional life. You really have a gift for teaching and along with that comes patience. I know loving the hobby as you do helps with the patience part of it because you go through answering the same questions over and over again (which I am grateful for). I grew up in Chicago and have only migrated south about 12 years ago. I sure do miss the snow (at times)- how about you?

Not really. I lived in it on a farm in Iowa for 30 years. This spring we had a friend pass away in Pro, Utah and had to travel there. It snowed 4 inches in two hours. Spent the night and got out of there and headed to Las Vegas. What a drive. First time seeing snow in over 30 years. I'm glad to be away from it.

I guess I was just thinking of all the fun stuff - sledding skating skiing making a snowman. I remember having to go out to the car in the middle of night to keep up with clearing the snow off my car so I could get to work on time in the morning. I guess I am crazy I even enjoyed that. I just didn't like when the temp got to 60 degrees minus with the wind chill or some of the nasty Ice storms. It took me 6 hours (instead of 45 minutes) to get home one Valentines day because the storm hit in the middle of the day so by the time they let us off early (4 pm) it was already bad and just got worse - I was lucky though because I had just filled up the tank the night before, but so many people ran out of gas sitting in traffic on the roads - it was nuts.

Sandy, I am in the North Suburbs of Chicago and I can assure you that the snow should not be missed, as I get older, I am starting to not like the snow more and more, now it's just a hassle to get through and makes my feet cold. But that is probably because winter lasted until April Last year.

Cool thread guys! Hey Coop, I spent 20 years in downtown Phx, 4th st and Roosevelt. I painted that mural on the wall of Planet earth theater on third st and Roosevelt that was there through the nineties if you remember it. Me and my buddies are responsible for that whole downtown art scene, otherwise it would have been on Grand Ave only. I'm a fine artist my whole life...never had a job since 1989 but I play bass in a travelin' band and we come through there still every Feb. You have answered every question I've ever posted on here, Thank you!

Also, I think they are cracked skulls. I tried to get a photo with a borrowed camera that I thought could do the trick, but no, it is to small.
