I recently purchased this lovely 1923 Mercury dime.

There is a die crack running from the 6:00 obverse rim up through Liberty's neck. At the 12:00 position there is another die crack running down through the cap.

At the 12:00 position on the reverse there is yet another die crack between the E and S in STATES.

The marks on the right obverse field are bits of dust I forgot to remove before taking the photos. This looks to be a high grade coin with Split Bands.

Just thought I'd share it with others.

Very nice earl Mercury dime.

I do love that die crack ... almost like the die is breaking in half.

I'll plead ignorance.

What's a split die? I haven't heard that one before.

Still a die crack at this point. The die has to split deer to be a split die:

They are wider.

I did consider a minor crack at its beginning stage, but it is a nice coin.

Many years ago, I bought an original, half roll of BU 1923 dimes. About eight or ten of the pieces illustrated that die crack from the rim into the head. Three of the dimes were PCGS certified as MS-65, and there were four at MS-64. I didn't send all the dimes, just the ones that I thought might come back at 65 or better. I jokingly labeled the ones with those diebreaks the "pinhead" variety. Note that mine didn't virtually bisect the obverse as our OP's coin illustrates.
