My grandfather recently passed and left me a few coins. I was wondering if you would be kind enough to help me identify, value and share any knowledge that could help me insure these coins (if necessary). I have no idea if valuable or just cool. Thank you so much!

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather.
Unfortunately, none of the coins are very rare. The three Indian Head cents (1893, 1901, 1905) are all circulated common dates that are probably worth less than a dollar. The same goes for the Liberty Head (V) nickels (1905, 1911). The three Winged Liberty Head (Mercury) dimes are also common and circulated, but the silver in each is worth about $1.30. The wheat cents are worth a few cent each, and the Indian Head nickels are a couple times face.
All in all, the coins are more cool than valuable, so I would suggest keeping them, as you won't get much out of selling them. It sounds like you were planning on keeping them anyway, though.
Rest in Peace

I think those coins make wonderful keepsakes to keep in your family. No need to worry about insuring them. Just keep them safe in a lock box or something with a note about your grandfather.

If you have any more specific question, just ask.

Rob and I'm sorry for your loss.

Yes, these coins do not have monetary value over a few dollars so just put them somewhere safe and from time to time bring them out and think of him.

I agree with the earlier replies, but would only add that the specific packaging on some of these coins (the plastic flips such as with the 1905 Indian Head cent, but not the cardboard 2x2s, such as the 1942-S Lincoln Wheat cent) might be damaging them over time. If you have literally just these 15 coins, then it probably isn't worth it to change anything, but if there are a bunch more that you didn't include in your post, you should consider changing the way these are stored.

Lastly, I'm very sorry about the loss of your grandfather; however, I would point out that many of us got started in coin collecting by our grandfathers. Stick around CCF if you start to feel like you might want to learn a whole lot more about coins!

You should consider getting some newer packaging. I would say for all of them.

And I am sorry for your loss.

Sorry for the loss of your grandfather. Mine passed back in the 80's, but I just moved my Mom to assisted living and in the process got his coin collection out of safe deposit (moved to a SD closer to where I live). I decided to go over the coins first, and document what we have, and in the process caught the bug, bad! I wish I'd shared his interest back when he was alive. I really miss him.
Rest in Peace

My condolences for your loss.

I am with the group here, these have a sentimental value well above and beyond any other.

You might consider getting some Coin World Premier holders for these, it's a slab with the interior holder sized for the exact US coin. They cost about a dollar apiece, best price is from Amos Advantage on the net, but with only a few coins, the expense is not great and will protect your sentimental value as well as allow for handling.

Look into purchasing a book called the Red Book by Whitman Publishing. Lots of info about your coins.
