That's terrible. :( I've also heard a story about a man getting arrested for spending 57 $2 at Best Buy years ago.

Things like that usually doesn't happen when you spend a $2 bill, though. I never really had such problems when I've used a $2 bill.
Rest in Peace

Is it common in the States for elementary schools to have their own Police Departments?

I used to live in that area about five years ago. This is hilarious. I also have had many issues when I have used $2 bills. People seem to freeze when they see one. If someone is living the boring life, just pay in $2 bills and watch the adventures you will have to endure.

One would think that the police, who are supposed to enforce the laws concerning counterfeit currency, would actually know what real currency is.

Evidently this was too much to expect.

Probably good thing I wasn't the Principal as the whole school would have heard me chewing some adults out for this blunder... I would have told them all if they wanted their jobs tomorrow that they had better show and get EDUCATED!!

I've created many mini-tempests over the years trying to spend cull Indian cents at local supermarkets and drug stores - kind of fun for an old codger. But never had the cops called!

Those who should know the Law don't understand it.

THAT is very sad.

I see an article like this once a year or so, and it never ceases to amaze me.

And yes, it's sad.

The girl has a good story now though.
