Not sure what this is. Someone local to me is selling this for $100 with a silver coin. I want to know what kind of coin this is and if it's worth the money. Is it real gold or plated? I know very little about coins as I am new to this. It looks cool as a chain though.

It does look like that...if it's gold plated I suppose it's really not valuable? Didn't they make gold ones too or was that just recently?

Here's the other one it's a silver dollar made into a chain. They look to be similar in size but she don't know. She just said it was a gold coin pendant medallion.

Wow, okay... I am a complete novice at this. What do you think the value of these 2 could be? When I saw them I thought they might be worth something.

For the plated/accented Walking Liberty half dollar, aside from any metal value from the enclosure, you're looking at melt, which is about 6-7 bucks for the silver. I say "melt" because the coin has been damaged by the plating and/or mounting and really has no numismatic value. Would need better pictures of both sides of the other one to make an assessment.

Fair enough. I'm going to see if she will send me the reverse.

Without the silver dollar factor nobody can tell you what it's worth for both. Chances are, the silver dollar is going to be a common 1922 Peace dollar or 1921 Morgan dollar and there you have about 25-30 bucks altogether. On the other hand, the silver dollar may be a good date and mint mark and it could be worth more. But something tells me, you did right checking here first and there's still time to say no deal. As far as jewelry goes, if you like a pendant made out of a silver half dollar, that's nice I suppose. Maybe the bezel has gold content. That could make a difference too.

If the bezel is gold, it should be stamped with karat purity somewhere. Most likely it will be on the loop attached to the bezel. Unfortunately, the pics aren't good enough to make that out.

After looking at them more they are both Walking Liberty halves. I got that confused initially because I don't know proper terms for some of these coins. But, one is gold plated "apparently" and the other has gold accents. Still not sure of value. I'll check into it and see if it's real gold.

I thought there may have been some confusion about whether you posted pics of the same coin or two different coins. I assume the pics are of two coins (both Walking Liberty halves). Still, the coin(s) have lost numismatic value because of the plating. So, if only melt value is involved, the composition of the bezel(s) becomes more important. If you only had two half dollars, the melt is about $13 total. However, if they are surrounded by a gold bezel, the bezel may be worth more than the coins. The plating, no matter what it is, doesn't add any real value. Gold or not, plating is such a small amount that it won't change the metallic value.

Quote: The plating, no matter what it is, doesn't add any real value. Gold or not, plating is such a small amount that it won't change the metallic value. True story. Plating results in a layer that is ghostly thin. Yet those ghosts have generated billions in sales from unsuspecting folks over the years.

I would venture a guess and say that since the coins are plated and ruined as collector coins I will assume the jewelry surrounding it is not gold...just a hunch
The melt value of each half is around $6.50

Yes its 2 different ones. Thanks guys they are very nice looking for what they are but, I was hoping they might be valuable. I think I'm going to pass on them. Someone else that wants them as they are can enjoy them.
