Just wondering him many people collect full sets of
P D S S proofs and Silver proof sets like in Dansco
albums.

I guess what I'm really looking for is it worth it?
Thinking about collecting the Roosevelt dimes
but not sure if I want the S proofs and Silver
Proofs which boost the price of the set.

Thanks in advance.

Really it's up to you... do you like the proofs? If the overall cost of the set is a concern leaving the proofs out would make it less expensive... the question is, would you feel like it's incomplete without them? Maybe you could start with the business strikes, and decide when you're done with those if you want to stop there or keep going...

Collect what you like!!

The only reason I started picking them up was b/c the albums I got had the holes for them. Although with the JFKs, I deliberately wanted them just b/c I did want to say I had one of every JFK half made - in this set I also include the more obvious doubled dies and RPMs.

Ultimately its up to you, if you want all of them the easiest way to get them is to buy mint sets and proof sets and take them apart

Glad you're here!

My OCD tendencies make me fill every spot in an album so I won't get an album unless I'm willing to commit. I only have the Lincoln Cent and Jefferson nickel Danscos, and they remain incomplete after 20 years or more. I'm still working on them but in no rush. In final analysis if I don't care for something I won't get it just to complete a set. I'm developing an interest in the classic commemoratives and it scares me! Like the others have said - just get what you decide is going to complete your project as defined by YOU.

Do you plan on collecting both the P mint proofs and business strikes in the early years? If not why would you need the proofs in the later years? Maybe the clad proofs just to have the S mint examples (and they are cheap) but why both?

My brother collects only P and D sets in Dansco Albulms. I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it ( long term investment) to collect P, D, S proof and Silver proofs in the Dansco Albums?

I'll get the all of the coins if there is something different other than the strike (I.e., proof vs uncirculated). So, I get both the clad and silver S proofs for example, but I don't have both the proof and uncirculated P mints prior to '65. To me this is a full set and I don't really pay attention to holes in an album.

to the Community!

I do like P/D/S/S sets myself, but it is not something I do as an investment.

I was more of a type guy, so I only collected the silver proofs in the date set Dansco albums. But it is awesome feeling a full PDSS album once completed! Welcome to the forum! :)

The silver proofs can be acquired quite reasonably. Most should just be dollar or two. Add them to the collection if you think you need to to have a complete set otherwise just skip them.

You can always buy the complete proof set for little over melt and sell the rest. The net cost will be two or three dollars.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

If you enjoy having the S-mint proofs and silver proofs, by all means collect them! But I would be doubtful as far as a long-term investment...
