I selected by date and mintmark only. I've just never gotten into the Large Cents in a big way.

My 'collection' is by condition only, just like to check them out and sometimes consider what they would buy in 1846 or 1888, and who might have carried it around in their pocket.

Pretty much all of the above, I collect date, obverse, reverse as well as varieties of all dates (except brass 1859) I can't afford to buy one hopeful I'll get lucky and find one.

I put together a set of all the Large Canadian Cents with simply an attractive date and mint mark I could that was quite affordable. One of each is good enough for me. I don't think any are uncs in my set. It appears most of us that collect them are either like myself here or very serious about them. Just like any other coin series.

I also didn't have any single choice. I collect Obv, Rev, and varieties (both front & back of Charlton) ... many of which are not in the back of Charlton. But I don't collect nor catalogue die pairs using Haxby or Turner numbers.
Maybe add another choice in your poll?

This was my first attempt at a poll and I should have worded it better. My intent was for each option after the first to include the previous choices. So the fourth option "by varieties listed in back of 2011 Charlton" would also include date, mintmark, obverse and reverse varieties, and front of Charlton varieties. There wasn't room to put all of that in each choice. Sorry if it was confusing. Thanks for all the responses!

To me, half the fun is determining which Die pairing the coin was made with. It was funny, when I first started learning all the different Die pairings, I had listed a few in my ebay store for sale and low and behold...guess who buys a higher grade example of an 1859 common die pairing? Dr. Haxby himself! Now I'm thinking...was it actually a common die pairing? Lol

I used to almost have every one in the back of the 2011 Catalogue... including the 1881H SSN, but I lost interest in the large cents and took a real shine to error coins...

You may also want to add something
PCGS/NGC Registry Sets
The Charelton listed varieties is too many for my interest (assuming you mean the ones that are listed which can include many of the Reverese varieties, double punches etc... it covers the middle ground between basic mint mark/date set and Charelton.

I pulled up my invoice and it says it was a.... DP9 #3 PC59-732 / Die Pair 73 + P12a But that was right before he finished rearranging the die pairing #'s a couple years ago if I remember correctly. So it might have changed.

DP9 #3
PC59-732 / Die Pair 73 + P12a You are correct. It was renumbered. At that time, the DP9 #3 was a 732 (73 + P12a), but due to some renumbering, it is now a 742 (74 + P12a).

Facing the inevitable, I'll probably be down to die pairs some day.
