I decided to give selling at coin shows a try. Hoping to get a table at the local coin show in Jackson Mich. in October. Just made my first pass through my collection to see what I can live with out, or what I have multiples of. I am thinking I should ask for any opinions about selling at coin shows. It would be nice if I don't make any mistakes my first time out. Pic of what I am setting up so far. I plan on putting coins in new holders, when needed. And to have prices, either on the coin. or on lists.

My first question is,how much are they charging you per table? How big is the area you would be renting? I have never sold at a show so I don't know the behind the scenes stuff. Good luck and let us know how it goes. PS Maybe have some give away's for YN's and promote CCF as well John1

Good questions John.
I guess I should know the answers ... I think they told me the tables are $50 or $60, and I think they are 6 or 8 foot tables.
I will know more once I do it. They have 32 tables, I think I am first on the waiting list. Dealers that came to their last show have first shot at getting tables.

The tables are 8 feet long and the table fee is $50. You've got some nice stuff, you should do well. I'd recommend you bring your own show lights as the overhead lighting in the Legion hall is not so great. I'm further down on the waiting list, but I'll be walking the floor as usual.

Andrew Thank you for your reply.
I will have to check to see what lights I can bring.
Are you a member of the Jackson coin club?

Don't compare yourself to other dealers. I've done a half dozen coin shows myself. The most important thing I have learned is how to interact with the customers. If you can get them to stop and look, the rest is up to how you treat the people. I buy from friendly genuine dealers most all the time and walk right by the grumpy, snobby ones.

Do your best to be friendly and helpful. Take a few coins you don't want to sell unless they sell for your minimum. Those coins are more likely to draw lookers.
Remember to have a good bill selection for change. Most buyers carry larger denomination bills.
You make money at a show by what you buy, not by what you sell.

Thank you both for your input.
Most times I try to be friendly. I like all areas of coins, so I am happy talking about any type of coins.

Looks good to me! I wish you luck! With your previous part-time coin shop experience I am sure you will do well enough to keep doing it, especially if you enjoy it.

Try to have something for everyone-low cost to high, maybe even something to attract the attention of kids and bored spouses. A junk bin to sort through for one thing.

I like to buy at the end of a show. Many dealers are a little more desperate for travel money.

Thanks all
I do have a month an a half to get ready, I hope I don't over do my prepperation.
Some of my worries Not taking coins someone might be looking for. Having coins stolen. Not having enough space to display everything I take.

Use ALL of the real estate at the show available to you. Having your back against a wall is not a bad thing, because you have that entire wall to hold inventory in.
But, don't have too much either. This is a great way for the distraction method of thieves - you are looking for something and they are pocketing something.
