Just a thought, but couldn't the mint get authorization to mint two silver dollars that aren't "commemoratives" but real silver dollars. If that was the case, then we could see a 2021 Morgan and a Peace Silver Dollars. It would still leave two other options available for the commemorative program, and we could still get our two dollars that many of us would like to see. I am probably wrong somehow here, but it just makes sense to me.

They wouldn't even have to go through all that effort. Congress can pass legislation to do whatever they want or have as many commems as they want. They would just have to get them to actually do it in time to get it done. Every restriction that is actually on them can be removed or exceptions voted for etc.

Doubtful the difference is significant enough to encourage legislation.

Interesting article about potential 2021 Morgan and Peace dollars being released as legal tender instead of commemoratives.

It is now also a different legislation, H.R. 6192. And yes, they would be produced as legal tender, not as commemorative coins. Write your congressman and ask him to support it.

Yes - Non-Circulating Legal Tender.

I sincerely hope that neither of the bills for these coins passes. They are just another example of the Mint trying to circumvent the commemorative coinage laws already on the books. They are the start of a very slippery slope that will result in abuses to the system!

I cannot imagine this program, or any variation thereof ever reaching the light of reality. Given all the other issues we face, this has to be at the very bottom of things needing to be done. On top of that, given how Washington continues to dysfunction, it is unlikely anything of value will be done.

with commems on this one. I'm also not a fan of restrikes, which I know these technically wouldn't be, but that's still how I would personally see them. All that being said, I'd probably purchase at least one of these coins if they come to fruition...

Wow - I find myself in the unusual position of disagreeing with Commems on something!

Not being a regular buyer of U.S. Mint products, I would be very happy if this legislation were to pass. I hope that the Mint never goes loco with 3-D / colorized / commemorate dozens of things every year stuff, but I would really enjoy getting these items if they ever go up for sale.

I like the idea because I liked the 1916-2016 gold coins, but did not really have a budget for them. These I could get as long as they are silver.
