I have had this 1892 Barber dime in my collection since the mid-1970's. It has the Barber dime obverse, but rather than the minted reverse it has an engraved reverse that appears to be an "A." The weight is 2.24 grams. The top of the coin rim has some silver solder which appears that it was likely a chain loop for a neck chain or charm bracelet. Any ideas on whether this coin is an error, novelty, or has any value? Thank you.

These are called "love tokens" and were engraved by hand after the coin left the mint. There are collectors of these, but I have no idea of the possible value. to the CCF!

Look on ebay for sold love tokens to maybe get a feel for value.

your coin also has damage on it, at the top, where it once had something attached to it, probably for a necklace.

To the right person, would easily yield $15-20

I concur with Drew on the approximately $15 value of this love token. Just a thought .... This would make a fine start toward forming a year set of "love dimes." Just think, of all those pesky and expensive mintmarks to be avoided!

First, Great find! Love tokens are a fascinating part of history, and definitely collectible art. The engraving skill is remarkable. It is almost a lost art.

Having collected coins for over sixty years now, and exonumia for over fifty years, I'm still discovering and acquiring numismatic items that I've never seen before. This is a great hobby by which to gain knowledge and mingle with fine folks. BTW .... to the CCF!

The larger the love token the greater the value. Ones made from a silver dollar can go for $100 ish.
One with a full name and especially one with an engraved date will fetch a premium.
