Sometimes the 200 year old safe contains reasonably authentic looking coins. But over the last two months it has produced an awful lot of 1795 dollars, in similar condition.I counted nine... Here's a typical one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1795-Flowi...047675.l2557Everything about this coin says "stay away" to me, especially at prices over $2000 for uncertified coins. The surfaces look suspiciously clean, and the 9 in the date doesn't look just right. But the bust and dentils look reasonable. Has anyone here ever bought anything from the safe? The sad thing is that so many of the 1795's that have sold - for hundreds of dollars - are terrible quality fakes, way worse than the safe coins. Especially the draped busts. Run, don't walk. More fake than a Kardashian.

I thought I would take a chance on one of his coins and pulled the trigger. When the coin came I was very disappointed, the images are bad for a reason. It was a real coin but his images hid many problems. He was a major pain to deal with on the return. I will never buy from him again.

Looking at his listings, you can definitely tell the photos are juiced.

This Seller has been a topic around here for a long time. It has not been good. He skates around ebay's TOS and rules pretty-well unscathed. Best to stay away or at least be very careful.

Thanks heymikep. Some or all of these could be real, but they definitely look like they've been doctored, either the images or the coins themselves. I visited Jack Beymer in Santa Rosa once looking for old cents. He had a lot on his printed list at the time (way before photos and ebay). There was little question that they were all genuine, but almost all of them had problems. I found one 1795 that I liked....but I missed the pinscratch graffiti, which ANACS detailed the coin for. They were good about taking the return. Right off the top, the idea that someone would have a 200 year old safe full of 1795 dollars is preposterous....but a few of them sold for over $3000 anyway....

I like the 200+ year old store made out of 20th century cinder blocks.

The "old safe in a demolished building" story has been going around for some time.

As soon as I read the title of this thread I knew exactly which ebay seller was offering the coins. I still don't understand how this seller can have a 100% approval rating. But there are lots of neutral feedback and 21 instances of revised feedback over the last 12 months... that should be enough of a red flag I suppose.

Look at the seller's feedback. No negatives but a boatload of neutrals.
And I drop back to my standard comment in cases like this: "For the price that is being asked they should be slabbed."
And the word "cleaned" immediately popped into my mind when I saw the coin.

Quote: Found in safe of 200 year old store during demolition! It says the store is 200 years old, not the safe. Here's the 200 year old store...

Say what you want about this seller, but somehow they acquired a huge hoard of coins, some quite old and rare, and are selling them. Buy any raw coin at your own risk. Most of their photos are washed out with too much lighting. Their return policy is great. I bought a slabbed coin from them, and it was better in hand in natural light. I would buy from them again, no problem. The story of how they found the coins is obviously a joke.

In this day & age, with all the knowledge at one's fingertips, how and the heck can suckers be so plentiful? I don't even feel sorry for the suckers.
