Wow, after reading up on the history of the shipwreck, seems to check out. Thank you so much for the info, I was wondering if there was a way to identify the shipwreck it came from.

I'm ready to throw in the towel on collecting Silver Ducats (and Ducatons). I never ever see a nice quality specimen, and if there is one the price of it is in the stratosphere.
There are of course hundreds of beat up specimens for sale on sites like MA Shops, but even those have price tags that are outrageous. It almost seems like there is some massive scam/collusion going on between sellers that keep prices high. I'm seriously fed up with it.

You have to remember, the ngc/PCGS pop of the entire Silver Rider series is smaller than the 1893-S Morgan. If you think prices are high now, wait until you see what they're like in 3, 5, 10 years from now.

I understand there are not that many graded examples. But why is nobody buying the ungraded ones and send them for grading? If you look at MA Shops for example, there are dozens if not hundreds of raw Riders for sale.

I have not seen a single raw example that was priced well and worth grading. Link to some examples?

Thanks. One has to hunt for these coins now, not that they've ever been easy to find on the market.

Good to see this thread, I always liked these coins but don't have the patience (or funds) to collect them by date. I have two, PCGS MS63 and NGC MS62 respectively:

Nice coins.
Are these Silver Ducats or half Ducats?

Thanks! Both are Ducats, part of a limited Netherlands Crown type set.

Perhaps I should branch out from Silver Ducats into Silver Riders as well.
