Poll Question
So, with the help of halfabustisbetter, I completed my Silver + 1 clad (65) Roosevelt dime set. Unfortunately, I bought a used Whitman album (copyright 1960). I guess in 1960 Whitman could not foresee that the USA would not mint a 1965 d dime. Also unfortunate is that I did not realize they did not make a 1965 d until I embarrassed myself on this very website, when I posted a "wanted to buy" entry. To make a long story a little shorter...I have a un-fillable album hole . Like most of you an open hole in an album drives me to a point of uncontrolled compulsive buying or ridiculous forum posting if buying is not an option . So my poll for comic relief only is....... WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT THIS OPEN HOLE?! Feel free to vote or add your own suggestions. Just remember it is a family friendly forum Poll is over....And it is official....The majority states that I am a Cheapskate! I did like the idea to trade someone in Colorado for 1965 Dime, but I will more than likely re-label the hole for 1966, since I am a Cheapskate Thanks for sharing a couple smiles with me. Results

Absolutely special order one. Then start showing the album around, to see if anyone gets the error. Note that I'm assuming it's a foregone conclusion that they'll be happy to mint you one in China.

Well, there is that slight problem that the Mint didn't use mintmarks from 1965 to 1967.... In theory, any business strike 1965 Dime could be a Denver Dime. Note that the Special Mint Sets of 1965-67 were known to be minted in San Francisco, so you could have a 'known' 1965-S Dime! (if it's an SMS Dime) Statistically speaking, which city would have the highest percentage of Denver Mint coins in circulation? That's right, Denver, Colorado! SO, all you have to do is have myself (or someone else in Denver) find you a 1965 Dime in circulation, and it will be the likeliest candidate to be a Denver-minted coin. Even if it was a 'Philly' coin, it could have been here in Denver for the last 30 years anyway, and in any case you could say it was 'from Denver' with a straight face. The China fake would be humorous! Does the word 'counterfeit' even apply if no 'original' was made?! I'm holding out for a 1905-1920 Morgan Set, in a fake Dansco to match (with "CC" and "O" coins for each year ). And a set of 1959-81 Wheat Cents, too! I got a 1964-D Dime in change today , and who knows, it may have been here in Denver since it was new....

Put a clad 65 in in the reverse position to show what the back looks like or a SMS 65 dime and sticker over the D in the album with either REV or SMS on the sticker.

China is the easy way to go, fill all of those non-existant coin holes.

It so crazy that it has come to this after 200 years we still see counter fit coins. Just crazy

What about putting a blank planchet for the series in the hole. Works for me for me on several levels: hole filled; still part of series; reminds me there wasn't one minted; and you'll be surprised how many people don't notice it's different.

I love those choices! Of course, the serious side of my personality forced me to vote "Buy a new album cheapskate!" Quote: Does the word 'counterfeit' even apply if no 'original' was made?! No, but I think it would qualify as a fantasy piece though!

Hey Coindexter, How much do you want for that lead dime? It might pass as a 65 d. I will pay you the melt value for it

Although your choices are more fun. :) If you do happen to find a 1965 silver dime, you probably wouldn't want to put it in that spot.

Somebody around here told a story on the forum about this guy that had a Morgan dollar album and he hated seeing holes in the album, especially in the rarer dates which he couldn't afford. So he took a common date morgan and stuck it in the hole and then spray painted the coin blue. Thats just a funny story though. Don't do that. That would look like crap.
