The first proof I ever owned was a 1941 Proof LWC I found in a $5 face mixed bag. I held onto it for 2 years before I sold it 6 months ago. At the time I didn't feel it fit my collection in any way and didn't think of it much, so I sold it. After a bit I kinda regretted it, but what was done was done, nothing you can do about it. I actually made a thread relating to the coin a year and a half ago. Well I guess the coin gods decided to bring us back together. Last night while pretty bored I decided to just keyword toned into ebay and filter by wheat cents, after scrolling for a few pages I stumbled on a very familiar coin. While I ended up paying almost 3x what I sold it for, I'm happy to have it back home. The toning is much nicer in hand, actually a really beautiful coin if it weren't for the staining. Link to the ebay page is below. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Toned-1941....m2749.l2649Original CCF Thread: http://goccf.com/t/348485

That has happened to me as well. Sold a coin in 1976, bought back 25 years later.

It looks a lot nicer now. Did NGC conserve it? Good to welcome it home!

Quote: It looks a lot nicer now. Did NGC conserve it? Not as far as I know. Though I may consider giving it a shot myself. I didn't actually have verdi-care back then, but now that I do it might be worth a try. I don't really care either way.

I could be wrong but I think BadThad said not to use Verdi-Care on Proof coins .

I can't afford to buy back the X-Men #1 comic I paid 12¢ for in 1963 and sold for $7 a few years later.

Good story. Wonder how far the coin traveled. I see the seller is based in New Jersey?

Quote: nss-52 - What's it worth now? In the condition it was in, about $20,000. The nicer shape issues command over $100,000.

Always cool to hear about these prodigal coins. I never had one valuable enough to keep track of, and have rarely sold any in the first place. Quote: I can't afford to buy back the X-Men #1 comic I paid 12¢ for in 1963 and sold for $7 a few years later. Sort of like the 1968 Charger I sold for $450 in 1978. Best I can guess, that car is probably worth $50K or so now.
