As @spruett said, here is an image of the real deal (same date) https://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotv...5a27728b8b76From the look of the surface, first guess is a replica that is plated, but as @ oriole says, a weight measurement can help rule that in or out.

It is a counterfeit (fake). You can look it up on Daniel Sedwick's site where he has a large list of Fake Cobs. (Look under modern pirates on his website) This one is known as FC53663. Been around ebay for years, popping up now and then with a new seller each time. Where did you acquire the coin?

Was about to reply and jfransch beat me to it! What he said, except that this isn't nearly faithful enough to the originals to be considered a "fake". Really just a tribute replica, one that should only fool an extreme novice.
