I know this thread has been done before, but we have new members and more progress on completing sets, so I was just curious. What sets have you completed in all dates and mint marks including the keys? Ok Just Carl this is where you make us all feel inferior.

I have competed a 7070 US Type Set in mostly XF to AU, but not the gold page. Also two Franklin half sets, one circulated, the other Proof and BU. A Lincoln Wheat set. A Mercury dime set. Jefferson nickel set through 1964. Buffalo nickel set (although on the Buffs I admit I plugged the 37-D Three legger and the 18/17 over date holes). In 2009 I am planning on finishing an Indian cent set, and a Walking Liberty half set. I also have a goal of photographing the completed sets and posting them in the coming year. Of all the sets I think I had the most fun finishing the 7070.

Happy New Year!

I have completed...absolutley nothing.

The only two sets I'm working on are Lincolns 1909-date and Early Commemorative Type 1892-1954. Obviously both of those will take a while to finish.

I have completed, after only 55 years at this hobby, the following sets. The currently minted types of LMCs, Jeffersons, Roosevelts, Kennedys, Sacagaweas and Presidents are UNC and have proof coins. The older series are circulated coins. All the circulated sets are completed with the key coins and the major errors, DDO / DDRs, over dates and RPMs. The type sets are XF to UNC and contain many, many first/last years of issue.

Coin Series:
Flying Eagle cents
Indian Head cents
Lincoln cents
Buffalo nickels
Jefferson nickels
Mercury dimes
Roosevelt dimes
Standing Liberty quarters
Washington quarters
Walking Liberty half dollars
Franklin half dollars
Kennedy half dollars
Peace dollars
Eisenhower dollars
Anthony dollars
Sacagawea dollars
Presidential dollars
ASE dollars

Type Sets:
Major U.S. type set (Dansco 7070)
U.S. Gold type set (12 coin set)

Those of you that completed the Flying Eagle cents and Standing Liberty quarters, does that include the 1856 and the 1916, respectively? That would be very impressive!

Completed:
Flying eagle (no 1856)

Indian Head cents (with many varieties, including 64/64, 73 open and closed 3, 86 T1 & 2, 97 1 in neck, 94/94, 69/69; all the regular business strikes are F or better except 72, 76, 77 and 09S; the 77 is F details but corroded and the 09S is close to F, but a strong VG-- I've been upgrading this set for many years and have many AU/BU pieces; 64L key is EF, 71 is VF-EF, 70 is F+, 08S is VF-EF). This set is my absolute favorite to work on.

Lincoln wheat cents (no 55 DDO, but do have 72 DDO in AU and 22 no D in G-VG; 1934-present are all BU with a few exceptions; several before this are EF-AU- also have been upgrading this set for many years. The 09S VDB is a F details, but scratched with initials)

Lincoln memorial cents with proofs (1959-2007, all BU)

Liberty nickels (common date 1900s are nearly all F or better full Liberty, keys are low grade)

Buffalo nickels (with 37D 3 legged and 18/17-D overdate, just one coin is acid restored; 13D T2 is VF full horn, but most other keys are AG-VG range)

Jefferson nickels 38-present but missing a lot of proofs

Barber dimes (completed this year)

FDR dimes (46-present with proofs and 96W all BU, except don't have 2008-P)

Washington quarters (32-2007 with all proofs; 40-present all BU)

Barber halves (completed this year)

Walking Liberty halves (many AU/BU in the 41-47 range)

Franklin halves (all BU, most FBL; also with the proofs)

JFK halves (all BU; but lacking many proofs, with 74 D DDO in AU)

Peace dollar (most EF-BU; 28 is AU)

Close to completed:

Large cent (need 8, all between 1793-1811; plus some varieties if I wish to go there. I just started this set this year, so it needs a lot of upgrading, has just three F or better)

2 cent (need 64 sm motto & 1872 keys)

Shield nickel (need 5, 3 are keys)

Mercury dime (needs 16D- hope to buy this year; most 1938-45 are AU-BU, some with full split bands)

Barber quarter (need just the big two; picked up an 96S this year)

Morgan dollar (need 5, all keys, hope to get at least two this year)

Ike dollar (BU with proofs, need 73S silver proof)

SBA dollar (BU with proofs, need 79S clear S proof & 99S proof)

SAC dollar (BU with proofs, only current to 2006; need all 2007-present)

Just started:

Seated dimes (from 75-92 need just 12-13, 5 of which are tough)

3 Cent nickels

3 cent silver

20 cent piece (have just two)

Probably would like to start on some bust coinage and seated quarters/halves, but it would "break the bank".

The only "set" I've ever completed is the Dansco 7070 U.S. Type Set, and I've done that twice, and am now working (slowly) on the third one, each time including the gold page. The only other sets I want to complete are the U.S. Half Cents (date set) and U.S. Large Cents (date set). Progress on those are even slower than on the 7070.

It's nice to see how much everyone has accomplished with their collecting. I recently stopped trying hard to complete "official" sets in order to concentrate on collecting coins. It was hard to break apart and sell some of my completed 7070 (including gold), but it really made me refocus my goals.

My favorite work in progress is my British rulers set. I have currently assembled a coin of every British Monarch from Charles II-date (including non-portraits and fantasies of Edward VIII) and am picking others up as I go (Edwards I-II-III, Henrys IV & VIII, Liz I). Hadrian will receive special mention for his visit to England/Britannia as ruler and I did just pick up a nice late model denarius (RIC II 256) for the purpose.

Other than that I am just picking up nice coins at good prices when I can afford them.

No my Flying Eagles begin with the 1857; I wish I had an 1856 (pattern coin or not). My keys, and yes I have the 1916 SLQ in PCGS VF 20, are all in slabs with "clones" filling those $%&%%# holes.

I've completed nothing...wow, I've got some work to do!
For those of you that completed the circulated Franklin sets, where did you get your coins from?

Some came from roll searching fifteen years ago. The rest from a local dealer; most were "paid" for by trading in silver half dollars from roll searching.

The circulated Franklin set was pulled from circulation in the late 60's by my mother and aunt. I purchased the uncirculated and proof set from coin store, auctions and ebay.
