Got this 1889 cc on an estate sale. I'd like some help knowing if it's authentic, but also if the mint mark is a problem with the die stamp? Or was it damaged after minting? Also any guess on grade would be great.

Looks genuine to me, with some post-mint damage to the 2nd C. The date and MM position are consistent with VAM-3, and it looks about G-06.

Not sure. My scale is up at the cabin. Seems to weigh the same as my other morgans, but hard to tell.

Well, I don't see anything off with it. I know exceptions do exist like that 1861 half dollar. But I doubt that this one was made a counterfeit in such a grade.

Looks genuine to me.

Mintmark was damaged after it left the mint

I think it would straight grade on the low end of the "good" scale—— G-4.

Nice pickup (as long as the price was right!)!

First,

I agree with G-04, straight grade. Certainly a decent example for the grade.

The big key question is how much you paid for the coin. Estate sales can be a trap OR a gold mine.

If the person (or firm) conducting the sale knew anything about coins they would have known this was a tough coin and worth hundreds of dollars and priced it accordingly, or sold it to their "go to" coin guy before the estate sale even took place. If they were clueless about coins they would have priced it in the bulk $ilver dollar range of 25 to 50$.

Anyway, I hope you got this coin at a good price because it is a very nice coin to have!

Congrats!
